Dear family, friends and supporters of UK for Jesus,
What a year! Certainly, everyone reading this has been affected in some way by the unprecedented challenges of 2020. Like you, we’ve kept our hope in God despite the whirlwind of worry and uncertainty that has surrounded us. It’s been a bumpy ride, but God has shown His goodness and faithfulness along the way.
In our own family, 2020 also brought us to a significant crossroads. As we’ve shared many times, our ministry fund will soon be depleted. While people and churches donate generously each month, there has always been a significant shortfall to cover our basic expenses. To date, this fund has bridged that gap to sustain our family and ministry, however that won’t be possible beyond March 2021. While some new support has come in from our recent appeals, it isn't enough to cover the monthly shortfall. As we’ve sought the Lord and prayed for new provision through this time, we have also realized that perhaps our second season of mission service in the UK could be coming to an end.
Now, with the pandemic still growing broader and lockdowns (especially in the UK) becoming more frequent and increasingly restrictive, including for travel, we don’t believe it would be wise or responsible for our entire family to return to the UK at this time. Doing so introduces the very real risk of soon running out of funds to cover our living expenses there, but then possibly being unable to readily return to the USA when that happens. Having no access to any public assistance there or family support makes it even more difficult.
It’s a complicated situation, and we’ve been earnestly seeking the Lord for His specific direction for our family. In doing so, we have come to the difficult decision that Connie and the kids will stay in Texas (where we’ve been visiting family for Christmas) and Trevor will return to work with Pastor David to organise our transition and to sort out our things. Connie will be schooling the kids and providing virtual support for our transition. Fortunately, business travel has thus far remained an exception, which should mean Trevor will (hopefully!) be able to come back when finished.
It’s going to be hard… on our own family and on our “family” in Cornwall! Not being able to both be there to manage a proper transition and especially not all of us getting to say personal goodbyes – it hurts our hearts. This was an unexpected development and most certainly isn’t the path we would have chosen for ourselves. However, we are following the peace of the Lord for our family and future. And whilst we are confident in God’s leading, that doesn’t remove the many real impacts for us personally, Brooklyn and Lincoln, friends and others there, the church as a whole and most especially Pastor David and Joy. As we navigate through this, we deeply appreciate your prayers and continued support and encouragement for us and for David and Joy.
We are especially praying for the Lord to put it in someone’s heart there to help take on the Grow Centre, which would be too much for David and Joy to take on in addition to their many other responsibilities. Will you please join us in prayer for this? The Grow Centre has been such a wonderful and evolving work of the church serving right in the heart of the community, being the hands and feet of Jesus, and we truly hope and pray a way will be made for it to carry on. In fact, after our transition is complete, we also hope to keep our non-profit organisation “UK for Jesus” active to continue to raise funds for the Grow Centre, Souls Harbour and to help support other local, full-time missionaries and ministers in Cornwall. We’ll share more about this when the time comes.
In the meantime, for the many who’ve given so generously throughout these 3+ years on mission in the UK, we are so very grateful and humbly ask our current donors if you’d please be willing to continue to do so at least through our transition period. We expect it could take up to a month or two for Trevor to finish up UK-side before he’s (hopefully!) able to return and seek employment stateside.
It has truly been a great honour to have served (not once, but twice!) alongside Pastor David and Joy and our many dear friends at Souls Harbour. We also want to sincerely thank David and Joy for, well… everything! – but especially for always loving and looking after us as their own from the moment we arrived in Cornwall for the first time back in 2011. Our Cornish family will be in our hearts forever, and we pray we will all get to see them again someday.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have, if you want to reply to this email or send either of us a message or we’d be happy to meet up with you virtually on Zoom.
We love you all, are so thankful for you and are praying God’s abundant blessings over you and yours for 2021. Thank you so very much for your part in reaching the UK for Jesus.
In Him and only by His grace,
Trevor, Connie, Brooklyn & Lincoln
