This service marks the third Sunday in Advent. The third Sunday is traditionally associated with joy, which may seem in short supply this year. But as most of us learn over our lifespan, even in the hardest times there are moments of joy.
Joy flashes out in the most unexpected places and gives us the spark that we need to go on. Joy is also made greater when shared with others. I hope our Scripture this week (Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11) ignites joy for you in the hearing, leaving you with a sense of purpose and hope as well.
Linda Gunther is our liturgist and Bob and Carole Shapiro will light the Advent candles this week. Erin McKibben and Konrad Kono offer three hymns “Open My Eyes That I May See,” “Christ is Made the Sure Foundation” and the Taize song “Wait for the Lord.” Chris Davis opens our time together with “Sheep May Safely Graze” by Bach and concludes with his own composition “Etude Avec Sentiment.” Finally, the Rev. Janet Ewart will lead us in prayer.
Wishing you God’s peace and blessing,
