Hello beautiful,
Happy summer! âď¸ I hope you had a lovely solstice, and are getting to catch some raysâor are managing to stay cool if that's what you need.
For Juneteenth, Josh and I ran in a 5k race put on by the local NAACP in the small town of Sylva, North Carolina. While some people are rightly worried that making Juneteenth a national holiday is only performative, it was really special to see how touched and excited this group was. We got to listen to a local legend share her rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing.
Instead of medals, the race winners were given batonsâto signify that racial justice work is a relay with no end. I thought that was cool; I know my own need to learn and grow and change and fight will never end, but it's heartening to think about possibly being connected to those amazing people who came wayyy before me and will be doing the work long after I am gone. I honor them all. I hope that if I touch the baton in some small way, I move it in the right direction. : )
Okay, here are your 5 things for this week. âŹ
