A unique showcase of Malaysian Sign Language poetry. It will premiere ‘Walls’, a poem film in Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) English translation. The film is the culmination of a year-long online collaboration between Malaysian and UK artist educators. The launch of the film will be followed by a sharing and Q&A with the artist educators and a few special guests. UK-based author Sue Paul will to talk about the research that went into her fascinating biography about the extraordinary life of Thomas Bowrey, "A Jeopardy of Every Wind". Bowrey arrived in India alone as a 9 year old child and built up a fortune through his exploits as a merchant adventurer on the fringes of the East India Company. Along the way he wrote the first Malay-English dictionary, wrote the first account in English of the recreational use of cannabis but the most remarkable thing is that his papers lay hidden in an attic for more than 200 years.
