POETRY - MALAYSIAN SIGN LANGUAGE POETRY, Online, Friday 26th February 6pm-7.30pm

A unique showcase of Malaysian Sign Language poetry. It will premiere ‘Walls’, a poem film in Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) English translation. The film is the culmination of a year-long online collaboration between Malaysian and UK artist educators. The launch of the film will be followed by a sharing and Q&A with the artist educators and a few special guests. Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Academy explores the colours that can be created with sound. The programme includes the Petite Suite for Flute and Bassoon by Pierre-Max Dubois, Konzertstück für Fagott und Orchester, Op. 2 by Franz Berwald, Jolivet Pastorales de Noël for flute, bassoon and harp by Andrea Jolivet and
Flute Concerto by Carl Nielsen.

MEET THE AUTHOR - SUE PAUL, Online, Monday 1st March 7.30pm

UK-based author Sue Paul will to talk about the research that went into her fascinating biography about the extraordinary life of Thomas Bowrey, "A Jeopardy of Every Wind". Bowrey arrived in India alone as a 9 year old child and built up a fortune through his exploits as a merchant adventurer on the fringes of the East India Company. Along the way he wrote the first Malay-English dictionary, wrote the first account in English of the recreational use of cannabis but the most remarkable thing is that his papers lay hidden in an attic for more than 200 years.

SHORT FILM SUBMISSIONS - G-SHORT, Online, Until 11th April

G-Short will be a short film festival held as part of the George Town Festival 2021. G-Short wants to encourage local film-makers to create original films, in a 90 second format. Cash prizes for winners.
