On Friday, October 21st we celebrated the nominees for the Character Pillar, Caring.
There are two main ideas that apply to the pillar of caring.
- Concern for others: Show compassion and empathy. Be kind, loving and considerate in your actions. Be grateful for the things people do for you. Forgive the shortcomings of others. Don’t be mean or cruel to others. Be sensitive to the feelings of others.
- Compassion: Children can learn that people should be considerate and caring. Instead of ignoring hurt, confusion, anger and sadness they can learn that people should reach out to one another. As Plato quoted “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle!” We can never tell what difficulties another person is facing, and your kind word or action might make all the difference.
Congratulations to the following students for showing outstanding character in the form of Caring on a regular basis!!
KINDERGARTEN Parker Jones - Parker is a delight to have in class and always does what is asked of her. When Parker finishes her school work she will go around and help her classmates. Parker has shown caring though hugging friends when they are sad, making sure everyone is taken care of at snack time, and always getting band-aids when a classmate is hurt. Mrs. Likes and Ms. Amber are very proud of her and have watched her grow from a student who didn't much like kindergarten to a caring student that puts her classmates first and excels in the classroom. Arturo Padilla - Arturo cares about all of his classmates and is genuinely concerned about how his friends are doing every day. Arturo finds ways to help others feel better and smile by drawing them a smiley face on a whole sheet of paper. He shows empathy to all of his friends and gives big hugs or a shoulder to lean on. Arturo is kind, helpful and always caring for others.

Alyssia always tries her very best to treat others the way she wants to be treated and goes out of her way to make everyone feel included. It is an absolute pleasure to have such a kind and caring student like Alyssia in class. Kaylee Kenney - Kaylee is kind to her classmates. If she sees that someone is feeling sad she will go over to ask him/her what is wrong and give a hug if needed. Kaylee tries to include people if they do not have someone to play with and helps others when they are having difficulties.
SECOND GRADE Zainab Alaish - With just one day as Zainab's teacher, it is obvious she cares about others. When Zainab completes her work, she raises her hand, and when called on, she requests to help others with their work. Zainab is a great role model for demonstrating caring. Julian Foster - Julian displays kindness, particularly for the students who sit with him at his table. He ALWAYS makes sure peers are okay before he goes to recess.
THIRD GRADE Cody Cheek - Cody is an amazingly caring student. Cody demonstrates his genuine care for other students by eagerly giving them any school supplies that they might need. SENIOR CLASS Michelle Dang - Michelle does great in all of her classes and is always the first one to help out others. Sometimes this is sharing an adorable video of a hefty frog backing into a block to make her teachers' day; other times it is offering a kind word to someone in need. While caring about academics is part of what makes Michelle such an awesome student, Michelle is also aware that caring about others and herself in other ways can be just as important when it comes to having a successful, fun, and rewarding senior year.
