What's new and what's happening in store at Reverse Garbage Queensland

Hello Creative and Sustainable People!

2017 was a massive year for us here at Reverse Garbage QLD. This year, we diverted more than 350 cubic meters of waste from landfill, and prevented even more virgin materials from being used to make brand new items by offering affordable secondhand substitutes. We also conducted hundreds of workshops, demonstrations and tours with children and the general public, to educate people about reducing, reusing and recycling.

That's not bad for a small not-for-profit!

Of course, we couldn't have achieved this goal without our customers and enthusiastic advocates, so thank you to every single individual and organisation that told a friend about us, donated unwanted items, bought industrial discards from our warehouse, or booked a fun creative workshop with us.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Can you help us prevent even more waste in 2018?

Review us on Facebook so that others try reusing with us!
Share our page with a friend who might be interested!

Otherwise, this edition of Not Junk Mail is packed with great ideas for having a sustainable Christmas this year. Our #GiveGood campaign is focusing on 6 hot tips this year. As we said in our recent ABC interview, giving good can be both more rewarding and more eco-friendly, such as by emphasising social experiences rather than material presents. Give the full list a read - you might learn something new!

Get a calendar to protect the Galilee Basin

Bimblebox Nature Refuge is a peaceful 8,000 hectare sanctuary in Central-West Queensland, located near Alpha. It’s composed of remnant semi-arid woodlands with an understorey largely made up of native shrubs, forbs and grasses, and has a rich diversity of birds (more than 150 species recorded so far), reptiles and other animals.

In 2000, when Queensland’s land clearing rates were amongst the highest in the world, Bimblebox was purchased with the savings of many concerned individuals, as well as funding from the Australian National Reserve System program. In 2002, the Bimblebox Nature Refuge Agreement was signed with the Queensland state government to permanently protect the conservation values of the property.

Tragically, in late 2013, the Galilee Coal Project was approved by State and Federal Governments. This mining project would devastate the bio-region. Current State legislation does not provide any protection for the ecological riches above ground, such as nature refuges and the protected areas that make up the National Reserve System.

The Bimblebox Alliance Inc. are trying to fundraise to protect the bio-region, and their 2018 Bimblebox Nature Refuge Calendar is available for sale either on their website or at Reverse Garbage QLD. The calendar features artwork inspired at art, nature, and science camps held at Bimblebox over the last five years, and photographs of wildlife and landscape were provided by visiting friends and scientists.
