The Graduate Council Caucus represents the interest of graduate students and the GSS at the Graduate Council of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS). Our members contribute positively to matters concerning graduate student interests at UBC. If you want to:

• Expand your networks
• Contribute to key decisions affecting graduate student interests
• Develop and gain leadership and communication skills by interacting with UBC administration, faculties, and staff

The GSS Loft, located on the top floor of the 5-storey AMS Student Nest building, offers spectacular aerial views of the UBC campus. It is a space specifically for graduate students at UBC Vancouver.

The GSS Loft can only be booked by graduate students, and most bookings are free of cost. The space is suitable for group meetings, socials, workshops, networking events, pre- event receptions.

When not used for events the Loft is used as a social and study space that is accessible to graduate students via their student card. Check this space out next time you are in the Nest!

Note: Thea Koerner House is undergoing renovations for the new Graduate Life Centre (GLC) and is unavailable for booking at this time. Stay tuned for more details on the GLC!

The Housing Security Aid (HSA), is a newly approved fund provided by the GSS specifically to cover housing-related challenges. The purpose of the HSA is to provide housing related support to graduate students who are facing housing insecurity or challenges.

Funding examples:

• Rent/Security deposit assistance (including rent increases by landlord)
• Moving-related expenses
• Assistance with temporary accommodations
• Assistance with replacement of damaged items in the student’s units which could necessitate fines by landlord

The GSS team has various vacancies open for councillors and ordinary members! 

To become a councillor, you must be elected as your department representative. If you are not your department rep. but would still like to join a committee, you can join as an ordinary member.

Your thesis may not always be smooth sailing.. so come where it is! The UBC Sailing Club offers sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, and social events.

If you have never sailed, there are plenty of people in the same boat as you. The UBCSC caters to all skill levels, including absolute beginner. Take advantage of your student status to learn a watersport for likely the cheapest price in your life!
