On Monday (10 May), following a review of the latest evidence, the Prime Minister will confirm whether England can progress to Stage 3 of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown for the further easing of restrictions, from no earlier than 17 May.
The decision to move to each stage is based on four tests:
- The vaccine deployment programme is continuing successfully
- Evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated
- Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS
- The assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new COVID-19 variants
It is a huge achievement for our community that the vaccination clinic at the STEAM Museum in Swindon delivered its 100,000th vaccine this week. A big thank you to everyone who has accepted their invitation to get a vaccination there (and at all other venues), as well as the fantastic efforts of the staff and many volunteers.
The Government’s target is to have offered a vaccine to all adults by the end of July. Everyone aged 40 and over is now being invited to book a vaccine. If you have any questions about the vaccine programme in Swindon, this information
should help.
Regardless of whether or not you have had a vaccine, we all need to continue following the guidance on hand washing, face coverings, social distancing and letting plenty of fresh air into our homes. We know we can’t afford to be complacent, so let’s keep doing these things to stop the spread of the virus.
