Our quarterly newsletters next year will answer the Who, What, Where, When, Why and Hows of each role for the Editorial Board that's right for you and your stories.

What is an Editorial Board and what information do I have in store for you in 2022?

• How many editors does a board need? The answer for this ranges from one to four (or more) and depends on a number of variables, including what type of story you're writing, what content it contains and how you plan to publish. I will answer this question in more depth in the March 2022 newsletter.
• An Editorial Board requires more than editors. While editors are important, they are only one part of the team that will help your words shine their brightest. Your Board should consist of three categories: Professionals, Experts and Readers.
• What roles belong in these categories? Professionals are your core editor or editors—developmental, copy, line, legal, proofing, etc. Necessary Experts might cover informational, sensitivity and/or craft knowledge. I have consolidated Readers to our ABCs: Alpha, Beta and Critique Partners. In the June and September newsletters, I will go into greater detail about Experts and Readers, including who they are, what they do, why you need them and what you can expect from your relationships with them.

Finally, in next December's newsletter, we'll recap all we learn together over the year, and I will share a suggested order and timeline for which board members you need and when you need them.
