Incident Description

It has been reported that an owner has lost communication with his Tanker whilst she was on route to Lagos. The Tankers last report via AIS shows that she was drifting at approximately 40nm South-southeast of Lome, Togo.

UPDATE 1
:
It has been confirmed that the vessel has experienced a pirate attack. Castor Vali will continue to investigate this incident to obtain the outcome of this attack.

UPDATE 2: We have received confirmation that the pirates are still onboard the tanker and the local authorities have been informed. Castor Vali will continue to investigate this incident to obtain the outcome of this hijacking.

UPDATE 3: It has been reported that as of 0600 UTC 18th November 2020, the tanker is drifting in position 04°16N 000°48E. Castor Vali will continue to investigate this incident to obtain the outcome of this hijacking.

UPDATE 4: The MDAT-GoG have provided an updated position for the tanker of 03°06'55N 002°16'58E this was effective as of 0853 UTC 19th November 2020. Castor Vali will continue to investigate this incident to obtain the outcome of this hijacking.

UPDATE 5: A further updated position has been received at 0623 UTC 20th November 2020. The Tanker is now located 195nm South-southeast of Cotonou at 03°06'34N 002°40'22E. Negotiations are taking place between the vessel owners and the pirates. Clearwater will continue to investigate this incident to obtain the outcome of this hijacking.
