Welcome to my newsletter. This is my third edition and I continue to be encouraged by the growing audience and great feedback! I look forward to sharing this space with you monthly, as we move towards the release of my debut memoir, “The Other Side of Yet.”
Like most of you, my social media feeds are currently filled with pictures of children of all ages. From the first day of kindergarten posts to the teary-eyed posts from moms who are new empty nesters dropping college-aged children off for the first time. It is a season of starting over. There is certainly a part of me that struggles with my torn heart strings, as I see the smiling faces of children who are growing up and moving further into their lives while Gabrielle cannot. Yet, I want to focus now on the September opportunity for us all.
September feels like a new start whether you are school-aged or not. I have always thought of it as a reset time as we reflect and move towards the end of the year. It is literally and figuratively a new season and therefore an opportunity to begin again. It can be a time to pivot towards new goals and new priorities. If you choose, September can be a time to challenge yourself to focus on self-care as the spiral towards the year-end holiday craziness looms closer.
This season of transformation as leaves turn colors and fall also gives us a chance to transform. We are never too old to learn and grow. I try to ask myself regularly: What are you learning? What are you teaching yourself? What do you see in the world and in your life that offers a new lesson?
You may not be pulling out a new backpack and Trapper Keeper (#throwback) or hopping on a yellow bus in the next few weeks. Yet, you can always find new opportunities to build your skills, strengthen your mind and body, nurture and grow your spirit.
Let’s never lose the zest for life and natural curiosity that challenges us to keep learning and evolving throughout the seasons of our life. Sometimes we make conscious decisions to change our lives. Sometimes we aren’t given a vote. In any case, we can always take new life seasons and use them as an opportunity to become better versions of ourselves.
What would you like to learn this September? Let me know. I would love to hear from you and perhaps even share your journey to help inspire others. Please email me if you have something to share.
Let’s keep learning and moving together, friends.
