Dear St. Andrew's Community and Friends,
This Sunday we will look at the next installment in the "Glimpses of Paradise" series by turning to the Beatitudes. Jesus begins with "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" and then goes on to make a series of statements about how challenging life situations can open us to a spiritual dimension in our lives. I'll focus on three of the eight. I also make use of Eugene Peterson's translation to help us reflect on the meaning of each statement in contemporary language.
Tom Weisenburger is the reader. Chris and Erin lead us in "As the Deer," "Change My Heart O God" and "In the Bulb There Is a Flower." Chris will also share more of his piano artistry.
As Disciple Dog and I discussed the Beatitudes this week, he decided he would write his own version. It's called "The Bow-Attitudes," and you will be witnesses to the first public reading.
At 10:30 we will have a Zoom-enabled congregational meeting to elect church officers, followed by a brief coffee hour and adult education. The list of members being nominated and the Zoom links are below.
I also received a message from Chris that his departure for Taiwan has been moved to September 11. He still plans to attend the September 13 gathering via Zoom. He and Erin are busy preparing more hymns before he leaves.
See you Sunday.
Steve
