Network Team Meet Key Clean Energy Stakeholders in Doha, Qatar

On 5 - 6 February 2017 Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director, is visiting Qatar to take part in meetings with key energy stakeholders including the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development - GORD, Qatar Petroleum and the Ministry of Energy and Industry to present the Network's mission and objectives and discuss potential collaboration and synergies. Moreover, Mr. Frank Wouter is taking part at the EU-Qatar Joint Business Event to be held on Monday 6 February 2017 in Doha, Qatar.  

Network at the Middle East Electricity & Solar Middle East Conference in Dubai, UAE

You are cordially invited to join the Network at the Middle East Electricity & Solar Middle East Conference held at Dubai World Trade Center, on 14-16 February 2017. The event is hosted by the UAE Ministry of Energy and the Network is a supporting organisation with active involvement in the Conference Agenda.

On 15 February 2017, Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director serves as the Chair of the half day conference Energising the Smart City, (AGENDA) while on February 16, he is moderating a panel discussion on Forecasting MEA Solar Project Returns for Financiers, Solar Developers & Partners. (AGENDA)

The Network at the first EU-IEF Energy Day in Riyadh, KSA

The first EU-IEF Energy Day will take place on 14 February 2017 at the IEF Secretariat, Diplomatic Quarter, Riyadh, preceding the 7th IEA-IEF-OPEC Symposium on Energy Outlooks. 

The EU-IEF Energy Day will include presentations from Mr. Hans Van Steen, Head of International affairs unit, European Commission – DG Energy of the EU external relations and energy policy after the Paris Agreement, followed by detailed presentation by experts from renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors, including Dr. Mustafa Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert, EU-GCC Clean Energy Network, Naif M. Alabbadi, Director General, Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre and Faisal S. Alfadl, Secretary General of the Saudi Green Building Forum.

The Network supports the MENA New Energy 2017 Conference in Dubai, UAE

EU-GCC Clean Energy Network is among the Partners of the MENA New Energy 2017 conference to be held in Dubai, UAE on 25-26 April 2017. The event - formerly known as MENASol- brings senior executives from all over the globe but most importantly brings the key influencers, government officials, C-Level executives from developers and EPCs from the key MENA region.

The Network at the I DRIVE CHANGE: Green Mobility Forum, Dubai, UAE 

The Network is pleased to support and take part at the Green Mobility Forum, an event organised in Dubai on May 3rd 2017 by the WBC Group.  With the support of a number of key government entities, the I DRIVE CHANGE initiative aims to advance sustainable transportation in the Emirates by helping accelerate the uptake of alternative fuel vehicles. We believe that this innovative campaign will not only support the overall Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy and DSM strategy 2030 connected with green mobility, but also promote the wider national clean energy objectives outlined for Dubai.

Mr. Frank Wouter, Network Director, will present and discuss innovations and prospects for the next wave in clean vehicle technology. More information on the event will be made available soon at the Network website. 

January 2017 Network Highlights

Forum: Clean energy opportunities & challenges in the GCC region in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Alongside the World Future Energy Summit 2017 series of events

On Tuesday, 17 January in Abu Dhabi fruitful discussions took place at the Forum on Clean Energy Opportunities and Challenges in the GCC region, which was organised by the  EU-GCC Clean Energy Network in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Energy, the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General and the DG Energy of the European Commission. Participation at the Forum exceeded expectations at an event gathering more than 110 prominent and high-level clean energy experts, policy makers, academics, diplomats both from GCC and EU region.  The event was organized alongside the WFES series of events and was a back to back event to the EU Energy Day Workshop organized by the European Commission. As both the GCC and the EU regions work towards an energy plan, which ensures energy security, affordability and sustainability, the objective of the event was to share the lessons learnt and challenges faced for the mutual benefit. 

Discussions highlighted the importance of regional and international partnerships in developing clean energy strategies for a sustainable future.

Opening addresses were made by:

EU Energy Day workshop 'Transitioning the Electricity Sector' in Abu Dhabi, UAE

The workshop was organised by DG Energy of the European Commission within the World Future Energy Summit Programme. The workshop provided an overview of the progress and latest achievements of EU energy policies related to the integration of renewables in the electricity sector and their implications and relevance for other world regions. The Network contributed also in the agenda of this event with Frank Wouters chairing the Session on "Regional Balancing".

Network Team Meet Key Clean Energy Stakeholders in Riyadh, KSA

On 22 - 23 January 2017, Frank Wouters, Network Director, Dr. Mustafa Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert and Dr. Ioanna Makarouni, Communication Manager visited Riyadh in KSA and met with key energy stakeholders, to present the Network's mission and objectives and discuss on potential collaboration and synergies.
In particular, the key Network team met with high-level officials and experts in the GCC Secretariat General discussing on the main directions of the annual workplan ahead and the steps to be taken to ensure maximum impact and visibility of the Network activities. The Network experts, accompanied by Ms Lucie Berger of the EU Delegation in Riyadh, had interesting meetings and fruitful discussions with Dr Naif Alabbadi, Director General of the Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre SEEC, with Mr Ahmed Al Sadhan, Head of International Cooperation of the King Abdulla Center for Atomic and Renewable Energy KA Care,with Eng. Mohamed Abdalla, Projects Manager and Rasha A Al Masoud, Project Management Specialist the of the Saudi Arabia General Investment Authority Sagia, and with Simon Stoddart, Chief of Staff, Lina Murad, Government and International Relations Officer, and Arianna Khan, Executive Assistant to Director/Energy dialogue of the International Energy Forum IEF

The Network at the kick-off gala celebration of solarfuture.today

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network was one of the partners of the Kick-Off Gala Celebration of SolarFUTURE.today, the World Solar & CleanTech Influencers Forum. The event was organised on 17 January 2017 in Fairmont Bar Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi on the occasion of the World Future Energy Forum 2017.  Event partners included WFES 2017, CEBC, MESIA, EU-GCC Clean Energy Network, Energy Watch Group, SolarPower Europe, SASIA, Million Solar Stars, Dii, APVIA, SNEIA, CleanTechnica. The event brought together Middle East solar and cleantech industries as well as notable policy-makers, personalities, business leaders and investors with its international peers.

The Network was represented by Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director, and Dr. Ioanna Makarouni, Communication Manager. 

9 January 2017 | Riyadh, KSA | 2nd EU GCC Business Forum

EU-GCC Clean Energy Network II supported the 2nd EU-GCC Business Forum as an Expert Partner. The Forum was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 9 January 2017 and was organized by the EU-GCC Business Trade and Cooperation Facility. 

Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director was a panelist at the Financing the Future of the Sustainable Energy in the GCC Panel Debate.
