Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
As the Medicaid eligibility redetermination process ("Medicaid unwinding") continues, there is an urgent need to gather information on how Medicaid unwinding is impacting Indian Country. While existing studies are already demonstrating significant loss in Medicaid coverage across the United States, there is very little information demonstrating the effects of Medicaid unwinding on Tribal Nations and the Indian Health System.
In an effort to fill this data gap, the Tribal Self-Governance Advisory Committee (TSGAC) has been conducting a survey to share information with the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The information gathered will assist the TSGAC in coordinating with self-governance Tribal Nations in their respective states and identify gaps in Medicaid disenrollments. TSGAC is requesting that all Tribal Nations fill out the survey by October 31, 2023. Even if a Tribal Nation does not have specific numbers or data to share, they are encouraged to share any stories about how Medicaid unwinding is affecting their community. Please click here to access the survey. In addition, our member Tribal Nations are encouraged to reach out to USET SPF with any challenges or difficulties with state Medicaid offices or unwinding in general.
