The fluffy dandelion that was our visual trivia question last week had gone delicately to seed as they do - and I asked if it's still good eatin' at that stage. The conventional wisdom is that it is not, that the greens will be bitter then and should be eaten before the plant flowers. There was definitely some dispute of this conventional wisdom, however! In fact, Ira Josephs (whose chicken of the woods is a feature photo above) said, "Pish."
I can only assume the "Twaddle" that follows.
So we'll wrap up the month with a salute to the mycologists like Ira. How many (and this number will probably increase by the time you answer my question) named species of mushrooms are there?
