Happy Sunday, everyone! Alexa Smith here coming at you from a different mailing platform! Although I would normally discuss this in one of my updates below, I thought I would address the elephant in the room up front. Basically, I decided to switch from MailChimp to Mailerlite for my newsletter after a call I had with one of my author coaches this week! He told me that essentially the algorithm MailChimp uses results in emails being dinged and sent to the Spam folder of people's inbox, whereas this platform has had a much better reputation. Bear with me through this process as I make the switch--as I may end up ultimately migrating my newsletter to my website, with weekly reminder emails being sent out to all of you instead! I would love to hear from you all with your preferences if you have them (Side note: I am also hoping to add more people to this newsletter, so if you have any ideas on how I could "recruit" let me know as well)!
Anywho, with that out of the way let's get into my "zero-waste perk" for the week!
- I started experimenting with TikTok as a way to promote my zero-waste educational content! Given my audience here, this may take a little bit of explaining, but essentially the social media app TikTok (which has blown up recently) has a robust video editing feature which allows users to edit in green screens and captions to short videos they create to make them more engaging! I dipped my toe into this feature this past week as I created a video on President Biden's Executive Order on "Right to Repair."
Here are the rest of my weekly updates:
- I sent out another batch of author copies to some notable individuals including everyone from Leonardo di Caprio's non-profit organization re:Wild to one of the waste warriors discussed in my book--Nicole Bassett.
- During the call with my author coach mentioned earlier, I also took a deep dive into SEO for my website. I genuinely had no knowledge on this topic before our talk, and I can't believe that I have come this far on my journey without having known about it. That being said, I am now being a lot more mindful and developing strategies to attract more traffic to my website so that hopefully more people can learn about me and my book!
- I secured an interview with an Instagram account called Sustainability Champions. This is a huge deal as the account has over 100,000 followers, so I am really nervous but excited for our IG Live on July 26! More reminders to come!
That's all for this week!
Best wishes, Alexa Smith
