Nothing 'normal' about the last four months of business - it’s been exceptional across all fronts, hard work but highly rewarding and fun. Fundamentally, loads of you returning regulars and so many new and now familiar faces too. Pretty much without exception you have demonstrated your delight to return time and time again to the sanctuary that is Bartellas and we have loved welcoming you back.
So encouraged by your terrific support and highly appreciative comments we’re cranking it all up a few more notches to take us through to Christmas and 2022. More frequent menu reviews, an extended wine and cocktail list as well as our usual investment in the look and feel of the place itself including the development of an all-weather option for private hire on the terrace.
Some new characters serving you while our student staff sample university life, but they’re already booked to be back in December. We don’t have much of a problem attracting good staff since we pay and incentivise them properly plus offer them sustenance when on duty from the menu at our expense, unlike most operators.
Book now for Christmas and New Year
Christmas party lunch and dinner menus are on the website with group bookings selling fast. New Year’s Eve this year will have a global theme: we’ll be celebrating 'midnight' every hour from 6pm in Japan, 7pm Russia, 8pm India, 10pm Sweden, 11pm Italy (bypass the French) then Champagne and confetti cannons at Midnight in Meopham with dancing and bar until late. Christmas Day and Boxing Day have very limited availability but we’ll be open all day throughout the festive holiday period.
Good old Government goons with 'hospitality uppermost in our minds' will be raising the VAT rate to 12.5% in October then up again to 20% in April 2022 - so much for the level playing field with the supermarkets.
I reckon that, after the last 18 months of hard graft, I've earned a week away from the business and my staff richly deserve time away from me too! So, assuming I pass all the tests and get let on board ship, I’ll see you in October. Apparently we’re only allowed to get off in port with escorted tours so you know me, I’ll probably opt to remain on board 'on duty' at the numerous all-inclusive bars and eateries!
