"'And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'"

Message from Fr. Mike for Sunday, May 21 |
|
|
|
To the Parishioners of St. Philip Neri Parish, sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints –
"Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ”.
Jesus said to his disciples – and to us: “When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you also testify because you have been with me from the beginning.” (John 15:26) … On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. (John 14: 15)
Mahatma Gandhi reinforces the invitation and commissioning of Jesus when he said: “We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world in our body. If we can change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man/woman changes his/her nature, so does the attitudes of the world change towards that person. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is – and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”
We have been empowered, in and through the Holy Spirit to live life to the fullest, and to make a difference in the world. May we pray this STEWARDSHIP PRAYER:
My church is composed of people like me - I help make it what it is.
It (my church) will be friendly if I am. It will do great work if I work.
It will make generous donations to many causes if I am a generous giver.
It (my church) will bring other people into its worship and fellowship, if I invite and bring them.
It will be a church of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, trust and hope ... a church with a noble spirit,
If (I), who helps make it what it is, am filled with the same things/virtues.
We can make a difference, when we stand and pray together!
Can we make this our Easter commitment? With the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of BEING all these things I want my church to be. Amen.
So ... wherever you go, go with God, the Advocate ... whenever you go, go make a difference.
Praise be Jesus Christ … and Mary Immaculate
St. Philip Neri … pray for us
St. Eugene de Mazenod … pray for us
St. Kateri Tekakwitha … pray for us
God is good … all the time.
Fr. Mike Dechant OMI

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Amen.

Hi Everyone!
Here we are at the Victoria Day long weekend already! Yay! As we quickly advance towards June, the mixed Spring weather continues to be keep us on our toes - with some hot days, some smokey days, and some cooler (but clearer!) days. The May long weekend is looking great, though - warm and sunny - and with maybe even a little rain - which would sure be great for our farmers and gardeners. Let's just hope that nasty smoke stays away!
Now, let's see what's coming up in our Parish and around our Diocese for the remainder of May and beyond:
- Just a reminder that the Parish Office AND the church will both be closed for the Victoria Day Holiday on Monday, May 22. A few more details are directly below.
- Something old is new again! We have re-introduced the posting of the Mass Intensions for each upcoming week, for your convenience. Please note that if Mass Intensions are received on short notice, they may be too late to appear in the current Newsletter. We will try our best!
- The Parish Revenue and Expenses for the month of April are below for your information.
- Our Parish AGM (Annual General Meeting) is coming up NEXT Sunday, May 28, following the 10 am Mass. Come out and learn more about what has been and is occuring in YOUR Parish! Please see more details below.
- Parishioner Doreen Barry is turning 90! Be sure to stop by her Birthday "Come and Go Tea" NEXT Sunday, May 28 in our Welcome Area! More details can be found below.
- Don't forget! Sunday, June 4 is our Family Fun Parish Spring BBQ! Be sure to join us for this awesome Parish event! Please see all the details below and sign up in the Welcome Area ASAP!
- The St. Philip Neri K of C are once again offering a $500 post-high school scholarship. Please see more details below.
- Finally! Freedom Fridays have resumed as of last Friday. Please read more details below, and feel free to join us! New faces are warmly welcomed!
- It is Cookie Time THIS weekend, May 20/21, in the Welcome Area right after both weekend Masses. Please bring a (paper) plate of cookies for the Cookie Table and stick around after Mass for a "munch and mingle" with your fellow parishioners!
- A reminder that The Bridge on 20th needs a little help with a few items for the folks they so diligently serve. Please check the list below - all donated items can be brought here to the bin located in the Welcome Area.
- For the month of May, we continue to collect hearty soups and stews, canned beans or other canned proteins for the Food Bank. Thank you for continuing to fill our bin for them! More details are below.
- The next Bereavement Support group will be THIS Tuesday, May 23, from 1-3 pm. Please scroll down for more information.
- Please note that there will be a Special Collection THIS weekend, May 20/21, for Papal Charities. Extra Special Collection envelopes are always available at the back of the church.
- Check out this week's Church Chuckle! We all appreciate St. Paul's inspirational New Testament "letters" - and like him, we also appreciate our flower beds!
- As far as some Diocesan announcements go, here's another Steak Night for you! The Saskatoon Pregnancy Options and Support Centre are hosting THIS fundraiser on Tues. May 30. Please scroll down for all the details about supporting this very worthy cause.
- Pope Francis needs our help to bring peace to Sudan. Join Canadians all across our land in a special online Rosary for Sudan on Sat. May 27. Please see all the details and how to register, below.
- Summertime means it's pilgrimage time! Check out the first two coming up in June, down below in blue.
- A reminder that the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Annual Retirement Reception is coming up on Tues. June 6 at TCU Place. More details can be found below.
- Summertime also means lots of garage sales! For all you bargain-hunters, here's a BIG one for you - St. Patrick Parish's Garage Sale, on Fri. June 2! They are also looking for any items you might want to donate to this sale (pick-up supplied!). Please see all the details below.
- Save the Date for this upcoming family event called Family Fun and Faith Day, on Fri. June 3, brought to us by the Diocese! Please scroll down for all the details and get this one on your calendar!
- Grow Hope Saskatchewan is back for another growing season! Find out down below how you can support local SK grain farmers as they donate portions of this year's crop to help improve long-term food security for our brothers and sisters all around the world.
- NEXT Saturday, May 27, there will be a fantastic day of fun out in Delisle as a fundraiser for the Hospice at Glengarda. Head on out for five hours of fun in support of this AMAZING hospice facility, so that they may continue to offer incredible love, care, "special treatment" and support to those family members who are in the end-stages of their lives. All the details are below.
- A reminder that the Life Compass Workshop Men's Retreat is coming to Saskatoon on June 2 or 3 (you may choose either date). For more information on this life-changing opportunity, please check out the details down below, in grey.
- Queen's House Retreat and Renewal Centre offers SO many faith-building programs and retreats that are open to all of us. Please click on the button I have provided below to see what they might have coming up that could meet your sprititual development needs.
- You are invited to take in "A Journey into Exile, an on-line event about refugees and all the challenges they face, being offered on THIS Tues. May 23. Check out more information down below.
That's it for this week! Sadly our last two Canadian teams have bowed out of the NHL Playoffs and so, for me, my focus turns to the upcoming CFL football season and our beloved Roughriders! It sounds like there are major changes coming, especaially on offence - which we will be able to check out NEXT weekend - during our first pre-season game against BC on Sat. May 27! With so many changes to rosters right across the league, it should make for a very interesting CFL season! Go Green & White!
Have a wonderful LONG weekend everyone! The weather looks to be beautiful - perfect for yard work and getting those bedding plants and gardens in, or perhaps for a little road trip to the lake or some nice long walks/bike rides along our beautiful riverbank. Drive safely if you are heading out of town or, if a stay-cation is in the plans, fire up the BBQ and enjoy some down-time and R & R in your own back yard. Enjoy - and talk to you next week!
Long Weekend Blessings,
Marlene

Family Fun Parish Spring BBQ!
Sunday, June 4
Come one, come all! It's time to celebrate our beautiful Spring/Summer weather as well as each other! And what better way to do that than by having a good old family BBQ? Our Parish Family BBQ will be held on Sunday, June 4, after the 10 am Mass, so from around 11 am - 1 pm, out back in and around the St. Philip School gym.
The Parish will be supplying the hamburgers and hotdogs, and we ask that parishioners sign up on the posted sheets in the Welcome Area to indicate how many are coming from your family. As far as what you can contribute to the food table, here are the two categories, according to your last name:
Last names A-K: Please bring SAVOURY (ie: salads. appetizers, veggies)
Last names L-Z: Please bring SWEET (ie: dessert or fruit)
There are also four "Volunteer Sign-Up sheets" for folks to help with the BBQ set-up, food serving, Kid’s Zone and take-down/clean-up. Many hands make light work so please help out where you are able. This is one of our biggest Parish events of the year, so we hope you will join us for some great food, family fun and fellowship!

St. Philip Neri Refugee Committee
Thank you!
The Refugee Committee would like to extend a huge, heartfelt "Thank You" for your wonderful support of last weekend's tomato/plant sale! The sale was another great success, and the proceeds will come in very handy as we may be welcoming two more refugee families into our community this year. It is your incredible financial support that makes giving these families a new home in Canada possible, so thank you again for helping to give them a new and better life here with us.
Happy gardening!

Liturgical Ministries: The next

Neri is on Friday, May 26 ! Like the life of St. Philip, all are called to a life of kindness and courtesy.
St. Philip taught everyone that a smile or a kind word, even when we don’t feel like we
want to do it, can go a long way in brightening a person’s life. May we all try to
imitate him in our everyday life!
NOTE: In recognition of the Saint that our Parish is named for, there are a number of “fun” draws to enter at the St. Philip Neri table in the Welcome Area. These will be available until noon on Thurs. May 25 and everyone is invited to enter! There can be only one entry per person and winners will be
notified.

Grow Hope Saskatchewan
Grow Hope Saskatchewan provides emergency food assistance around the world, as farmers and donors, urban and rural, begin another growing season together. Funds raised through Grow Hope are used by Canadian Foodgrains Bank to support people around the world who need emergency food assistance, as well as improving long-term food security.
Michelle Hergott, a Grow Hope farmer near Bruno, SK, says farmers have been gifted great abundance. Grow Hope Saskatchewan provides them an opportunity to share their passion. “We are farmers and Grow Hope gives us the opportunity to help those in need while doing what we love to do,” she says. “Do you also feel a call within your heart to help this great organization to feed the world?”
Urban and rural people in Saskatchewan are invited to sponsor a partial acre, a full acre or multiple acres, to cover the input costs of $350/acre. There is a potential to reap proceeds of up to $500 from the sale of that crop, which in turn has been matched 4:1 through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank’s Partnership with Global Affairs Canada. To learn more about Grow Hope Saskatchewan and/or to help sponsor this year’s crop, click on the button below, or contact Myron Rogal at (306) 659-5841 or mrogal@rcdos.ca for more information.
