Heavy rainfall overnight rainfall on Wednesday caused severe flooding in Region Four Demerara Mahaica including  Guyana’s capital, Georgetown.

The Hydrometeorological Department of the Ministry of Agriculture says in its extreme rainfall report and weather advisory that between 8 AM Tuesday and 8 AM Wednesday,  the highest rainfall reported was 120.3 millimeters  (4.7 inches) at the Georgetown Botanical Gardens.    Continue reading →

TRAVEL: Virgin Atlantic; other airlines apply to fly to Guyana; two hotels near CJIA proposed

Aviation Minister Juan Edghill on Wednesday November 4, announced  that the United Kingdom-headquarterd airline, Virgin Atlantic, is among several carriers that have applied to fly to Guyana.

Mr. Edghill hoped that the new Board of Directors of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) would eventually greenlight that application fir Virgin Atlantic to begin scheduled flights to Guyana.
