Hello!
The 300th episode of On The Ledge is swaggering up into my peripheral vision like one of those bloaters in The Last of Us. It's not like I didn't know it was coming, but it is still a shock.
Making a podcast on my own, it's hard to get perspective on how what I do is perceived by others, or what it all means. I am mostly sit in my office editing hours of audio, sorting out transcripts and sending emails.
Now, as I work on two new projects separate from the podcast*, I've thought seriously about jacking it in. It's hard work, week in week out, and compared with when I started, there are so many more shows competing for listeners' ears. It's only when I meet someone at an event and they say "your podcast saved me during the pandemic" or "my plant is thriving because of your advice" that I remember why I started in the first place.
The 300th episode will kick off my Late Night On The Ledge series with an absolutely epic interview that you won't want to miss. The idea is to run some episodes that sound a bit like something you might hear when planty people get together over cocktails for an after-work chat, which means some NSFW swearing and topics. (And yes, there will be an epic blooper reel too, with SO MANY SILLY VOICES.)
But, in a very selfish way, I would love to hear from you and include your voices in the 300th episode, too: to remind me of why this show is important to you. I want to know what you've learned from On The Ledge - from the very specific to the totally weird. I hope it'll remind you of some episodes you've enjoyed, and showcase a slice of the totally awesome OTL community. I've set up a Speakpipe page, or just email a voice note to ontheledgepodcast@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is July 12.
*One I can tell you about - I am recording an audiobook version of the classic work The Wild Garden by William Robinson and it should be out next month. The other is top secret but I can tell you it is a book 🤐
