The 2023-24 school year marks a milestone in the history of ICA Cristo Rey - we celebrate 140 years of educating the young women of San Francisco and 14 years since joining the Cristo Rey Network - 39 career focused, college preparatory schools across 24 states that enroll 12,300+ students nationwide.

Join us in the first national Giving Day on May 1, 2024 dedicated to the Cristo Rey movement! Inspired by College Decision Day and the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, we invite new and longstanding friends to animate our shared mission by giving generously during the 24 hours of this Giving Day. In the days leading up to May 1, we will be sharing the incredible accomplishments of the Class of 2024 and their journeys to college.

Paving My Way: Veronica's Journey to College

How did ICA help you with your college application process?

The college counselors made sure that I received all of the necessary resources to successfully apply to any and all colleges. Teachers played an important role too! They took the time to craft recommendation letters for each and every one of us. I am very grateful to everyone who helped me along the way in my application process.

How did your Corporate Work Study experience influence or aid in your college application process?

My placement at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital opened my eyes to the field of medicine which influenced my decision in majoring in the sciences.

What about college are you most excited about?

I'm excited to try and join new clubs!

What college will you be attending next year?

UCLA - Go Bruins! I will be majoring in Human Biology and Society.

What has the college application process taught you?

The college application process is both mentally and physically exhausting and taught me to be patient with myself. It was also a time to reflect on all of my experiences and truly see how I've grown from the time I stepped foot into ICA until now.

I applied for: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Bioengineering

How did ICA help you with your college application process?

ICA helped me with my college application process by providing amazing counselors that guided and supported me all year long. I especially appreciated their help proofreading my essays and providing feedback on my supplemental essays.

How did your Corporate Work Study experience influence or aid in your college application process?

My Corporate Work Study experience at Genentech allowed me to really understand what it is that I want to pursue in college. It was great to talk about my work experience while writing a supplemental application essay that asked about how my personal experiences related to my major.

What about college are you most excited about?

I am excited to learn more about my interests and passions on a complex level but also get the "'college experience." I am also ready to branch off and experience as many opportunities as I can and grow closer to my dreams.

What college will you be attending next year?

I will attend UC Berkeley as a Molecular and Cell Biology major.

What has the college application process taught you?

The college application process really taught me that although I had dreams to get into certain schools, everything isn’t guaranteed but it's still possible. I also learned so much about the college application process as a whole. Being a first generation college student, I would like to help others that may not have the resources and support to guide them through this tough journey.
