On Friday the 18th of March, the MHFA is proudly announced the launch of our new Integrated Mental Wellness Hub in March. This is the result of many years of work and community consultations. The MHFA’s Wellness Hub is a comprehensive, fully integrated, multidisciplinary health service for youth, adults, carers, and families to be located at 10 Yarra Street, South Yarra, 3141.
We thank all of our guests, and speakers for making this event so special, particularly Emeritus Professor Bruce Tonge, Minister Michael Sukkar, Georgie Crozier MP, Nina Taylor MP, Dr Katie Allen MP, Andy Meddick MP and Bill Garner. We thank Minister Michael Sukkar, and Emeritus Professor Bruce Tonge for unveiling the plaque for our facility. We also thank the Late Lesley Patricia Farrant who made establishing the Hub possible.
Mental Health Foundation Australia’s wellbeing hub is based upon and inspired by the findings and recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. Our Hub will provide evidence-based treatment, therapy, and recovery programmes, wellbeing support, inclusive and culturally sensitive education, peer support and self-help enhancement, care planning and linkage to community services and supports as well as telehealth and digital delivery services. Our services will be provided at a nominal cost allowing those who typically cannot afford traditional psychological services to receive the support they require.
The majority of our services will be provided by placement students in their final years of study such as Provisional Psychologists and Master of Counselling students to name a few. These students will be overseen by a Supervisory Psychologist.
A key and unique component of the Hub is the Wellness Wheel concept in which multiple service providers including access to other allied health workers, community organisations, job agencies, law firms etc. will come on board to service clients attending the hub as they need - an outcome-based service.
The Foundation is very excited to see this new venture through and to support community members requiring assistance, particularly following the challenges posed by COVID-19. We anticipate the Hub to be operational by mid year.
