Staying Home But Have An Itch To Travel?

Cork 'n Cap has what you need to take a trip from the comfort of your own home.  Why not visit France, Italy, or Spain, or maybe even all three in a single evening of wine pairing with your favorite cuisine of a specific wine region, or from the home of your favorite World Cup team.

Vall Por

How About A Trip To Northern Spain With Sangenis Vaque

Many of you past "CorkBoard" attendees will remember SANGENÍS | VAQUÉ, Named after the husband and wife team that started the winery in the early 70s, now operated by daughters María and Núria. They visited Jackson for a wine tasting event back in 2010.

Their vineyards are located in the district of Porrera within the Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin, on terraced hillsides that at first glance appear to be barren, but counter-intuitively are home to some of Spain’s very best wines. Wine production on their property dates all the way back to the 1600s.

Vall Por is a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena with a smaller percentage of Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah. Aged 12 months in 80% French and 20% oak barrels, and then aged 2 years in bottle before release. Dark Color with a red cherry maroon border. Good intensity, very suggestive in the nose. Forest fruits and spices. The mouth is fleshy, with broad and persistent, sweet tannins. If you like big meaty reds, compare this to your favorite wine from the Napa Valley.

Their wines disappeared from the area for a while but I recently discovered this gem hiding in a supplier's catalog. Cork 'n Cap originally sold a previous vintage of this wine for $26.99 back in 2010 but 16 years later I am able to get the 2019 vintage at a deep discount that allows me to offer it at a very special price of just $18.99. The usual 15% discount on an unmixed case of 12 applies.

La Castillonne Wooden Crate

Pre-Tariff Pricing Still Holding On Our Best Sellers

Chateau La Castillonne Red, our best selling wooden crate Bordeaux of all time, has a sibling. The red has been known for its consistent quality year in an year out. It is a classic 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that has crowd-pleasing brambly fruit notes, a dryness that lends it self well to pairing with a variety of foods without over powering them, and finishes with firm but gentle tannins.

Chateau La Castillonne White, says “Sauvignon Blanc” on the label but it likely also includes a small amount of Semillon, another important grape from the Bordeaux region responsible for rounding the edges and softening the citrus notes of the predominant grape, giving the resulting wine a luscious structure and mouth-feel.

Try either wine for $10.99 a bottle or grab a wooden crate of 12 bottles for just $108, a savings of almost $2 per bottle. While drier than a typical domestic wine, Bordeaux wines are typically lighter in alcohol and much lower in residual sugar, with minimal chemical adulteration for people who care about such things.  Goes great with tacos.
