Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue & Rehome

August is here, the summer is in full swing and here is our second newsletter. July has been a very busy month, but before we get on to all the news, a little more "potted history" of LCH.
In early 2014, having heard about the work the charity does from a Cornish based friend and wanting to use her public profile and fan base to help publicise the charity’s work, the actress Rosie Marcel, who plays Jac Naylor in the BBC medical drama Holby City, approached us offering to be a patron for the charity and donate her TV charity appearance fees. Rosie opened the charity’s first dedicated Fun Day and Dog Show and then later in the year appeared in "Celebrity The Chase" on ITV. Although not making it through to the final round, she donated her appearance fee to the charity and generated a substantial increase in views of the charity website on the evening of the program’s airing. Rosie continues to support Last Chance Hotel as patron, and we are very grateful to her for her time and commitment to the charity.
Last Chance Hotel invariably takes on animals who are in need of costly veterinary attention. This may be a result of neglect, mistreatment, owner abandonment, or many other reasons. The charity strongly believes that all animals should have a chance to a happy life; no animal is ever destroyed because they cannot be homed. Consequently running costs are high and never ending, and although our volunteers give their time freely, funds are always needed to service vet bills and other expenses. We truly appreciate all donations and put them to work immediately.

There was no let up in July, with 21 dogs coming in to rescue, far more than the previous month. Yet again, almost all of these dogs came from council pounds across the country, - dogs whose time was up and were facing euthanasia because they were unclaimed.
There were speedy happy endings for some of these incomers. Claude the whippet has been adopted by his fosterer, Smiler (now Jacko) the Mastiff X Boxer has a new home waiting for him, as has little Hairy Harry, the scrap of a Yorkie. Betty, the elderly Jack Russell, settled in so well with her fosterer, she is staying for good. Meanwhile, Sally & Fraggle the Salukis, Jester & Lucy, Marley, Denver and all the others, will be undergoing assessment in their foster homes with a view to adoption in the near future.
If you would like to help LCH by fostering a dog, please fill in a pre-assessment form.
These are just a few of the lucky hounds to have come in to the care of Last Chance Hotel. Some of them are already on our new look website lastchancehotel.org, and our Facebook page "Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue and Rehome", if you would like to find out more about them.

Dyson, Tilley and Mo are still waiting for their special someone to come along and take them home to their forever sofa. Dyson is very intelligent and knows each of his toys by name, and, if asked, will happily fetch them to show you. He loves cuddles and attention and is very happy to travel in the car. He is one mass of wiggles and would be a brilliant van companion for someone. Tilley requires an active household where people are at home for the majority of the day. She loves to play ball, and in the right hands, could excel at agility or fly ball. Tilley thinks she is a lap dog and loves her cuddles. She is dog friendly and could live with another, older dog. Mo has come on very nicely in her foster home. She gets on well with the resident dogs but can be choosy about some of the other dogs she meets. She is great with her fosterer's grandchildren when they pop round. She is a lovely looking dog. If you would like to know more about these three beauties, please go to our website lastchancehotel.org or contact one of the team by email info@lastchancehotel.org

Happy Departures to New Homes

Do you remember Tadpole, the Doberman with the malformed front legs? Well, we have some fantastic news about him; the lovely Rosie Marcel, our patron, fell in love with him when we asked if he could feature as her Dog of the Month for July. She travelled to meet him, and Rosie and her family decided to adopt him! He has been renamed Mac, and has joined his new family in the last few days. We couldn't be more pleased for this lovely boy. Thank you Rosie.
The LCH team have been very busy this month with another 27 adoptions taking place, a truly heartwarming number. Some of the dogs have stayed on with their fosterers, but most have gone to loving, caring new homes. Betty Boo, Tinker, William, Tyler, Sydney and Brian, to name just a few, now have a happy life ahead of them with their new family, and we wish them all well. The space they have made on their fosterer's sofa will soon be or has already been filled by another needy pooch.

Fundraising plays a vital role in any charity, and Last Chance Hotel is no exception. Without the support of kind, generous, hard working, imaginative and sometimes adventurous people, we would not be able to save as many animals as we do. There are some fabulous people out there who sometimes do crazy things to raise funds for us. We have a JustGiving page where you can donate direct to the charity or sponsor a specific fundraiser. Currently we have Phillip Hyden who has promised to shave his waist length hair off once his fundraising target of £1500 is reached. He is now over halfway there, and these donations have already gone directly to help the dogs. It will be an awesome head shave; if you would like to donate to his fundraiser to get those locks lopped, please go to his JustGiving page.
Two amazing ladies Beth and Clare took part in the "Race to the Stones" on July 16th and 17th, running 100K in just two days, to raise much needed funds. They completed the challenge and received their medals, and we can't thank them enough for all their hard work to help animals in need. This was a fantastic achievement, thank you ladies!
Fundraisers have also been busy with various themes: a Dog Walk and Garden Party, a Bake Off at Mount Hawke, Car Boot sale, and a Fun Dog Day and Craft Fair at Mawnan Smith. A massive thank you to Sarah, Andrew, Debbie, Eve, Linda and Glo for your hard work and great ideas. And last but by no means least, the latest LCH Facebook auction came to a close in late July; Kate has done it again, organising hundreds of fabulous lots and helping to reduce the huge vet bill. Thank you Kate, and Helen for overseeing this task.
If you would like to fund raise for Last Chance Hotel, please get in touch with the team with your ideas, we would love to hear from you.
