Hi friend,
Here we are together, in a new season. Mama nature gives us so much, including reliable reminders of new seasons, new days, new moons–whether we're ready or not!
I've decided to take a class (a certification program, actually) in integrative somatic trauma therapy, which I start next week. As I've been continuing to work on preparing our meditation and self-care resource library for you, I am thinking a lot about systemic and cultural context. One of the issues with wellness practices is that they tend to address the symptoms of our stress without addressing the root causes, which are frequently systemic, cultural, and interpersonal in nature.
Which is to say, I LOVE practical things we can do to care for ourselves (heck, I wrote a whole book about them!), but to me, it feels a bit like a band-aid if we're not taking the multi-layered, cross-modal approach that our complicated reality calls for. To put it in a Buddhist framework, there's no point in me attaining enlightenment if it doesn't benefit you. (Hence, the Bodhisattva Vows, which, colloquially, are basically dedicating one's own spiritual merit to the benefit of all beings.) So that's where my head is at. :)
Okay, here are the 5 things I picked to share with you this week. ⏬
