Reflections on the Scripture

Greeting: May the God of peace make you whole and holy, may you be kept safe in body, heart, and mind, and thus ready for the presence. God has called you and will not fail you.' (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

Blessed are those who keep God’s testimonies, who seek God with their whole heart, but also do no wrong, but walk in God’s ways! Psalm 119: 2-3

This verse sums up a lifelong journey of faith. Of course we want to keep God’s testimonies and of course we seek God with our whole hearts and of course we want to walk in God’s ways… but never do wrong? That’s quite a tall order. I don’t know about you but I make mistakes and missteps almost hourly, unless I am asleep. As Paul says “1I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. (Romans 7:15). So we all struggle with doing the next right thing. But the blessing to us is that God never gives up on us and forgives for our mistakes and missteps. God calls us hourly (or minute by minute if needed) into right relationship with God and with each other. That is the power of Christ Jesus working with us and the Holy Spirit working in us. I have to confess to you that I have a patience problem. I want things to move faster than they normally do and I get anxious when I feel things are taking too long. Whether is it a trip to the grocery store, a returned phone call or a response from the doctor. So I have to practice peaceful patience every day in order to walk in God’s ways. We all have something that we struggle with, something that trips us up. But that something also gives us an opportunity to give our struggle over to God for redemption and help. So give something over this week and allow God to help you walk in God’s ways. Amen
