Hydrogen, the energy carrier of the future

This research outcome seminar/online webinar will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and consider concrete options to move the hydrogen agenda forward in Qatar and the whole GCC and EU regions. It will help identify innovative and replicable practices and models to facilitate the development and implementation of renewable hydrogen projects to initiate joint initiatives.

The webinar is organised by the European Union Delegation to the State of Kuwait and the State of Qatar, the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, and the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) on Tuesday 25 May 2021 at 12.00 CET/ 13.00 Qatar Time/14.00 GST. 

H.E. Dr. Cristian Tudor, EU Ambassador in Kuwait and Qatar, EU Delegation to the State of Kuwait and the State of Qatar, and Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Taie, Executive Director, Qatar National Research Fund will open this promising event while high-level domain experts will share their views and insights.

Energy Transitions in the Context of Climate Change and Sustainable Development

This webinar Energy Transitions in the Context of Climate Change and Sustainable Developemt will provide an overview of the goals and activities that the two regions are undertaken to achieve their clean energy targets including the EU green deal and the different GCC country visions and strategies. Also, it will discuss the challenges that the two regions are facing and what can be done to transform them in business and economic opportunities. In addition, the webinar will highlight the efforts that both regions are undertaking to foster their collaboration in the clean energy and climate change domains.

The webinar is organised by the European Union Delegation to the State of Kuwait and the State of Qatar, the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, and the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and will take place on Thursday 17 June 2021 at 13.00 CET/ 14.00 Qatar Time / 15.00 GST.

ETS Market Stability Reserve to reduce auction volume by over 378 million allowances between September 2021 and August 2022

The European Commission published on May 12th, 2021 the total number of allowances in circulation on the European carbon market. It amounts to 1.578.772.426 allowances. At the same time last year, the amount was 1.385.496.166 allowances.

The total number of allowances in circulation plays an important role in the operation of the Market Stability Reserve (MSR) of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), which began operating in January 2019. This indicator shows the amount of allowances in circulation in a transparent and predictable manner. Read more here

The report provides the evidence base established on the latest publicly available data for identifying investment opportunities in the hydrogen value chain over the period from 2020 to 2050, and the associated benefits in terms of jobs. Considering the dynamics and significant scale-up expected over a very short period of time, multiple sources have been used to estimate the different values consistently and transparently.
