The Timeless Trends Hourglass Overbust (HGOB) has taken quite a journey from pencil to production.
I had worked on the first prototypes of this pattern back in 2015 (at the same time as the hourglass longline, standard, and cincher!) but due to some disagreements in management at the time, my patterns were scrapped. (I still have my original samples though, so I could do a comparison video!)
The project was given new life two years later in 2017 with the beautiful work of the very talented Amber Welch (Lovely Rats Corsetry) and later that year the patterns were accepted for production... and then we never heard about it for another nearly three years.
Just at the end of 2019/early 2020 did the new owner of Timeless Trends, Yvonne, take a work trip to Thailand and get this to market - with the help of Lowana O'Shea of Vanyanis to tweak the height of the underarms and back.
By the time all was said and done, I had no idea what the measurements were for the final pieces, to the point that I didn't even have info on which size to order! So... just to be on the safe side, I ordered them all (I took a chance that the waist size 24 would fit me, but I got all three bust sizes: Small, Medium, and Large). I checked them over for quality of construction and symmetry, tested the fit and became familiar with the pattern and silhouette, and measured the springs so I could give sizing recommendations and create a size chart.
Amber hit it out of the ballpark with this pattern, and I feel good enough about the construction to start stocking them in my own shop!
I’m wearing the black cashmere overbust in 24L here, laced fully closed in the back and a little open in the front, to give a very supportive and secure 13 inch difference between the waist and the bust!
