Dear GLL members and friends,
With the blink of an eye, we have officially approached spring. March marks the beginning of the season of revival and reveals a detailed plan of the new 18th Lithuanian Government for the forthcoming four years. We are glad to hear promises of greater attention to diaspora matters like dual citizenship, and we hope to witness those promises in action. Read more about the GLL agenda below.
Spring also hosts an important day in Lithuania's history: the Day of Restitution of Independence of Lithuania on March 11th. We invite you to celebrate this date and raise the Lithuanian flag, just like we did worldwide on February 16th. Until then, get acquainted with all the news in the GLL network and Lithuanians' accomplishments globally.

GLL partnered up with Swedbank to launch an open online database of women professionals Profesionalės.lt, with the goal of increasing the share of voice of women in the public debate formed by the Lithuanian media and event organizers.
According to research conducted in 2020 by the monitoring company Mediaskopas, men experts are quoted twice more often in the Lithuanian media than women. The stereotype that some areas lack women experts persists. This lack of gender diversity narrows our perceptions, therefore, holds back innovations and limits the available talent pool.
GLL network connects a significant amount of women professionals worldwide, and we believe easier access to them might quickly change the situation for the better. See the opening discussion on the initiative here>>

GLL calls the Government for closer cooperation with professional diaspora
As the 18th Government of Lithuania was preparing the plan of its program implementation, GLL discussed its proposal for professional diaspora engagement with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economics and Innovation.
The ministries highlighted their priorities, such as preparation for a referendum for dual citizenship, Lithuanian language studies abroad, diaspora engagement, the return of Lithuanian talent abroad, and tourism promotion.
GLL expressed its willingness to cooperate and share our hands-on expertise but also stressed the importance to allocate appropriate financial resources.
As a result of the meetings, representatives of GLL were included in the Council of Economic Diplomacy, as well as the committee for the coordination of Global Lithuanian affairs with the government.
We also congratulate the Ministry of Economics and Innovation to have included global talents on the advisory board for Innovation and Digitalisation per GLL recommendations.
The work does not stop here, however, as the focus shifts towards Lithuanian export companies and the potential of global Lithuanians to support their expansion and growth. We are also looking to help create a better environment for professionals with international experience to work and fulfill their ideas in the Public sector.

Lithuanians abroad to hopefully be able to vote online in the next elections
During the online discussion organized by the LTiVote group, parliamentarians expressed hope that online voting, as an option, will be available in the global Lithuanian constituency during the upcoming elections. The discussion touched upon the pitfalls that the adoption procedure for this law could experience, but the panelists provided an optimistic outlook on the integration and implementation of the online voting opportunity in the upcoming election. The fact that the issue was included in the coalition agreement provides more confidence for political will. Read a summary of the discussion here>> or watch the full one hour discussion here>>
