My dear reader,
This past month was full of events that I can't wait to share with you, so let's get started.
I transferred all my notes for A Spirited Engagement out of my phone and journal into the manuscript. My writing software tells me I'm about 70% complete from a word count perspective, which is flattering but untrue, for reasons I shall now tell you. I printed out the manuscript and am in the process of slashing everything that no longer makes sense. The focus of the story shifted from being a traditional sequel focusing on Hartwell and Mary's relationship, to a sequel commonly found in romance series, i.e. following a new couple, with cameos from Hartwell and Mary in their story. I'm fully leaning into the cynical heroine - hopeful hero in A Spirited Engagement, and having so much fun with it.
The latest iterations of my store-exclusive hardcover books for The Last April and Haunting Miss Trentwood arrived, and they are loooovely. My friends and I cooed over the deliciously soft texture of the covers and the smooth feel of the paper. We immediately began daydreaming about how to make them even better... Embed character illustrations within the text! I think I'm going to place a single image on an entire page, likely between chapters, rather than at the top of a chapter page.
