Crab and Winkle gets extended, swimming pools reopening and trees cause Wickes to pull out

The historic cycle route from Whitstable to Canterbury is getting a £169,000 extension, funded entirely by contributions from developers, which is fantastic to hear. For those that enjoy the idyllic route through Blean and Clowes Woods will be delighted to hear about the news. Work gets underway on Monday and is expected to take about 8 weeks.

More good news for sports lovers, as the swimming pools at Kingsmead, Herons and Whitstable will be opening on the 17th September. Those planning their visit will need to book and pay online, and are requested to arrive ready with their costumes underneath their clothes.

In a row over trees, Wickes have decided to pull out of their planned move to the old Homebase site in Wincheap. Canterbury Council have remained firm in their stance to keep the trees in Wincheap, despite the request from Wickes to have them removed and the potential loss of rental income. As an area of the City that already struggles with pollution, it would have been contentious to cut the trees. Hopefully the council will find a new tenant in due course.
