Dr. Tanya Bakhmetyeva was invited to come to the Institute on a summer fellowship at the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) (Leibniz-Institut für Geschichte und Kultur des östlichen Europa), in Leipzig, Germany, to work on her book, “The Politburo Goes Hunting: Masculinity, Leisure, and Power among the Soviet Political Elite” (Cornell University Press)
The SPIRIT grant on which she is a collaborator and co-writer was awarded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The Swiss Program for International Research by Scientific Investigation Teams (SPIRIT) promotes team-oriented cross-border research. The grant focuses on the study of gendered aspects of glacial research in the Soviet Union. On this grant, she is working with partners from Fribourg (Switzerland) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
