Hundreds of hours of planning, ordering, preparations, managing sales, supporting customers, and logistics all came to fruition for the 2022 Spring Tree & Shrub distribution in April. We distributed nearly 29,000 plants to over 800 residents through our presale and day of sales. And I must emphasize the WE in that last sentence.
We are continuing the legacy of work of conservation districts since the 1950s selling plants for ecological conservation. We are the now 8 person strong staff taking the WCCD to the next level in providing conservation resources and support to Washtenaw. We are supported by all those who voted to pass the millage in 2020. We are the many hands that worked all week: staff, board members, partners, and over 100 volunteers who spend hours unloading, preparing, sorting and packing orders for the event to run smoothly.
We, here in Washtenaw and beyond, are choosing to spend our weekends planting trees and supporting their growth for our future generations and health of our local ecosystems. So, Thank you to all the customers, nurseries, volunteers, staff, board members, partner organizations, this event is truly impossible without all involved.
It's an honor to steer the ship, build the relationships, and learn plants and hard lessons along the way. I love the work and am everyday inspired by those who've been planting for 20, 30, 40 years along with the Conservation District. So, if you're reading this, thank you, we're all in this county in the mitten on this small blue dot together, and together we can thrive in relationship to the natural systems on which we depend.
With immense gratitude, - Doug Reith, WCCD Resource Coordinator
