The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission is a non-partisan, non-political organization comprised of members appointed by the leadership of the House and Senate after Congress unanimously passed the United States Semiquincentennial Commission Act in 2016, and the America250 Foundation was created by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission as a non-profit partner of the Commission and charged with planning for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States (2026).
In March 2022, the USET SPF Board of Directors approved: 2022 SPF:002 Requesting USET SPF Representation on the America250 Foundation's Tribal Advisory Group and Tribal Leader Representation on the Full Committee in support of our participation in the America 250 Semiquincentennial Celebration. As the United States celebrates its 250th
birthday, it is important that our story is prominent and honest within this celebration.
Since 2022, Director Andrei Jacobs, Commissioner Young and various scholars working directly with America250 have presented to the USET/USET SPF Board on the projects being worked on for the celebration in 2026. USET SPF Executive Director Carroll has presented multiple times to planners and groups directly involved with the plannings and celebrations.
Most recently, in November 2023, USET SPF submitted a letter
to Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer requesting Tribal government appointment to the Commission to strengthen the comprehensiveness and thoroughness of the event providing a critically important Tribal Nation perspective to the Commission.
Now, America250 is offering the next step in this process - America's Field Trip | a nationwide scholastic contest where elementary, middle and high school students will receive unforgettable access to iconic American historical and cultural sites.
They are asking for help with outreach to spread the word. They have provided digital toolkits which include talking points, Q&A, draft social media posts for Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram along with so much more.
If you have questions about America’s Field Trip or the materials, please reach out to America250 Tribal Partnerships Director Andrei Jacobs at ajacobs@america250.org or communications@america250.org.
