Life has returned to "normal" on the French Riviera after the annual festivities in Nice and Menton wrapped up on March 3rd. In Nice, the 151st Carnaval de Nice celebrated the "King of Pop Culture" with floats, flower parades, music, and street performances. This year's Olympics were the theme for the 90th Fête du Citron® in Menton.
Some of our other favourite coastal destinations, Antibes, Cannes, St Jean Cap Ferrata, and Villefranche, are popular all year, even if the water is a little cool for swimming in March. The town of Vence, a short drive from Nice, has a
pedestrian-friendly old centre that is well worth visiting. Please read about
our visit here.
While our friends on the coast enjoy some quiet days, cyclists are battling in the 91st Paris-Nice: Course au
Soleil event. The 8-stage race began on March 3rd near Paris in Les Mureaux. Then, after many kilometres of flats, climbs, and time trials, there will be plenty of excitement at the finish line in Nice on Sunday, March 10th. And there is more thrilling cycling coming to Nice on July 21st when the Tour de France finishes on the Promenade des Anglais for the first time in the race's history.
Meanwhile, in the Alpilles at Les Baux de Provence, the Carrières de Lumières show continues until April 14th with the tribute to the Dutch masters "From Vermeer to Van Gogh," along with the short program "Mondrian, the Architect of Colour," and special TinTin. After that, the immersive experience will transport visitors to The Egypt of the Pharaohs, from Cheops to Ramses II (extended program) and The Orientalists, Ingres, Delacroix, Gérôme (short program). The program runs until January 2025. To save time, make sure to buy your tickets online.
