Just over 365 days ago, we loaded up a moving van in the sweltering heat (over 100 degrees) that Washington was experiencing. And we said goodbye to the only home most of our children had ever known, bound for Missionary Acres.
We arrived here on July 5th, 2021. When we unloaded most of our things into the kitchen of our future home for storage, we were anticipating being able to move in within four months.
Unfortunately, that timeline didn't work out. Between other pressing priorities here at the Acres, several unexpected problems uncovered during the remodel process, and some other twists and turns, we're still in the temporary trailer a year later...
But through it all, we've undoubtedly experienced God's love and guidance this year, despite our living in tight quarters. We've seen Him provide in remarkable ways, and our faith has been bolstered.
To account for everything that's happened these past 12 months would be impossible. But, here are a few elements of God's provision that really stood out to us as we spent time reflecting:
Though switching insurance and doctors took much longer than expected, Owen never ran out of his necessary seizure medications.
Brynna's arm completely healed from her severe break, without needing physical therapy. Other than her scars from the pins and the surgery, you'd never know there was ever anything wrong with it.
No one was injured when we had to jack the corner of the future house up to repair dry rot in the kitchen.
Though we were planning on using the old kitchen cabinets, they got damaged in the dry rot repair process. We were going to just have a kitchen with some crooked cupboards in it and make do, but a cabinet maker in Minnesota donated his labor and created the most beautiful kitchen for us (and drove it down and installed it!) It's amazing that it's going to be our kitchen once we get moved - it looks like it belongs in a magazine! And we had an unexpected donation come in that completely covered the cost of this beautiful cabinetry.
We've crossed the country three times since moving here and never experienced an injury, breakdown, or other unexpected delays.
We raised the rest of our necessary support, and as of July 2022 - we are at 100%and working on getting officially cleared for service. Being done with deputation is such a huge blessing!
This year has also allowed Bryan to begin working around the Acres, though we weren't "officially" cleared.
Here are a few of the major things he did:
Helped get two other homes finished so residents could move in
Serviced two septic tanks (roots like to grow in the worst places!)
Troubleshot and repaired many HVAC units, helping to cut down on the number of service calls needed
Replaced several hydraulic lines on the backhoe
Fixed a leaky main water line in a house
Diagnosed and repaired hot water tanks when residents were having trouble with them
He also spent many hours mowing the grounds, helping replace leaking water lines in the ground, and more.
It's been a good year!
And we couldn't be here without you. So thank you so much for your prayers, encouragement, and support. We greatly appreciate you.
Missionary Acres Update
A new family is moving to the Acres next week: the Mowens. As such, we have taken a break from other projects this week and have been rushing to complete some smaller projects in their future home.
Unfortunately, the house will not be ready for their arrival, but we have completed enough work to move most of their things into the house, reducing the number of times their things need to be moved.
Bryan has also been working with the staff to complete additional work on the future house for the Galvans. We have a large workgroup coming to stand up the walls in a couple of weeks and put the trusses in place. Praise God for the coming help!
Tanner Family Update
During our recent trip to Washington, we were able to share some exciting news with our family in person. And now we want to make it public - Tanner Baby #11 will be arriving in mid-December.
In other news, our homeschool material for the 2022-2023 school year is beginning to arrive. While the kids might not be as excited about this as Lisa, it looks like it'll be a great year of learning!
But before we get started with school, we have to finish the planning. July is when we redo all of our annual plans. So we've been creating our annual meal plan, annual chore charts, and picking the hymns we're planning on memorizing this year.
We've also been busy teaching the kids how to do their new chores so that by the time school starts in mid-August, things are running fairly smoothly.
It's shaping up to be another good year here in Missouri. Except for the humidity...a year definitely hasn't been long enough for us to get used to that! :D
Bryan & Lisa Tanner & Family
We reached 100% of our needed monthly support and are working on getting officially cleared for service!
Our trip to the Pacific Northwest allowed us to give an update in four different churches and reconnect with friends and family we hadn't seen for a while.
Four of the kids got to go to Junior Camp the week we got back from Washington. Two are now at Teen Camp. We're thankful for this opportunity for them to grow closer to God!
Our new kitchen was installed while we were in Washington, and it is BEAUTIFUL!
Phase one of our remodel project is nearing completion. The main tasks left are installing the sinks, toilets, and hot water tanks, finishing the carpet installation in one bedroom and doing some more Owen-proofing in his future bedroom to ensure he's safe in the space.
For Lisa's pregnancy and the newest Tanner baby.
For salvation for our children who are not yet saved.
That the clearance process could be completed quickly so we could officially be done with deputation.
For work on our house to get completed so we could move out of this temporary home.
For our oldest daughter Jayme, as she continues her 12 weeks of summer work at College of the Ozarks.
For the health and safety of the dear saints here at Missionary Acres, especially with the high temperatures we're experiencing currently.
For a new couple arriving at the Acres later this month.
