Word For You

Serving God When Things Are Hard

31 January 2021

"Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm."

Daniel 6:3

Daniel was one of the captives in the land of Babylon. He came from a royal lineage, a prince in the land of Judah, descendant of a king (2Kings 20:18); and (Dan 1:3). He was taken as a captive to Babylon along with other exiles. He was faithful to God throughout his time in Babylon. He stood for God; he did not deny his faith.

He could have chosen to live his life anyhow, be angry with God for letting him go into captivity and mingle with the rest of the slaves and do what they do. Daniel’s faithfulness to God was tested, tried and found to be true. He served God faithfully in a strange land. He served the kings of Babylon and Persia faithfully as well. All the kings that ruled in Babylon in Daniel’s lifetime experienced the power of God. He did not use his disappointment as an excuse to deny God.

Where we are right now might be the exact opposite of where we desire or plan to be, but we can remain faithful to God despite our disappointment. We stand to gain lots of benefits by standing for God even when things are not the way we desire them to be. God can turn our disappointments to glory if we stand for him despite our predicaments. Remember the bible says that all things work together for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28). Do you love God? Then hold fast to your faith in Him. Be determined to serve Him despite what is happening around you, and He will cause you to excel beyond your understanding.
