Helen, what did you do before Cook Stars?
I was a primary school teacher for 18 years.
Why did you join Cook Stars?
I joined Cook Stars because it offered me a ‘way out’ of the education sector with the opportunity to work for myself doing the things I love – teaching children and cooking.
What were you worried about when you joined?
I was scared I would fail and my investment would have been a waste of money.
Was it ok in the end?
Oh yes! More than OK.
My journey so far has been exhilarating! Cook Stars has completely changed my life, and Cook Stars Worcester - my baby - is building into my ideal successful business.
How did you find integrating into a new role?
Integrating into the role was hugely exciting and a bit scary, but knowing that Head Office ‘has your back’ so to speak, helped me to confidently stand tall.
What do you love about Cook Stars?
I love that I am still teaching and love to see how much joy children experience when they come along to cook. It is so rewarding when parents tell me their child has finally found something they love and send me photos of the wonderful food they have been inspired to cook at home.
I love that the children ‘run’ into class and have such enthusiasm for each new weekly recipe.
I also love to hear the ping of my phone notification of a new order which is thrilling!
And of course I love looking at my bank balance which is testament to MY hard work…THAT gives me so much pleasure.
Has it lived up to expectation?
Cook Stars has far exceeded my expectations in so many ways. I came to this adventure with huge hopes and dreams with no knowledge of what I am capable.
What have you achieved so far?
Cook Stars Worcester is becoming a well established cooking school, leading the way as the ‘go to’ choice for children and young people’s cookery lessons in the county of Worcestershire.
We currently hold nine regular classes each week. These are comprised of weekly after-school classes and pre-school sessions. An Academy class for older children and teens and Saturday classes. We host birthday parties and themed workshops as well as workshop sessions in schools, for pre-school nurseries and bespoke private classes.
What is next for Cook Stars Worcester?
Wow! You know what words spring to mind? …. Empire building! But in all seriousness we want to maintain our excellent standards, create additional opportunities to promote our wonderful classes, parties and workshops.
I am looking to create an inter-generational class and work with schools and our senior members of the community. I am actively seeking to further connect with the Home Education network and young carers, this list continues as there are so many opportunities to pursue.
It is all achievable as I have such confidence and respect for the Cook Stars brand. As well as faith in myself and the support and encouragement of our founder Cathy Harding and the Head Office team who are always available to help me succeed.
