Aesthetic Mutuality & Mechanisms of Change in Dance/Movement Therapy
An Experiential Professional Workshop with Susan Imus, MA, LCPC, BC-DMT, GL-CMA
This workshop offers an immersive exploration of how therapeutic change occurs in Dance/Movement Therapy and the wider creative arts therapies, with particular emphasis on:
- Mechanisms of change and the emerging research shaping contemporary DMT
- Aesthetic Mutuality as a key transformative process
- Dynamic Concretization—how symbolic, imaginal, and embodied material becomes clinically meaningful
- Improvisation and Play as generative forces for agency, expression, and therapeutic shift
Ideal for practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of DMT’s theoretical foundations while reconnecting to the artistry, relational attunement, and aesthetic intelligence at the heart of their work.
Through movement exploration, embodied inquiry, and shared aesthetic engagement, Susan will guide participants in understanding these mechanisms both theoretically and through direct experience. Clinical case studies—from psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, community health, and preventive contexts—will anchor the work in real-world practice and help participants consider its application within their own settings.
Participants will also be invited to reflect on the continuum of approaches in DMT and how their professional identity sits within the broader Arts in Health landscape.
