March 2022
From Sandra Murphy, Editor
As you may have heard, Draft2Digital and Smashwords are merging. Below you’ll see a letter and explanation of who will do what and how. This is important news for everyone who has their eBooks distributed by either company.
Jay Hartman dishes on how adding a charity component to your publishing can bring in sales for you and donations for the charity of choice. Molly MacRae has a split personality; that is, she writes under her own name and a pen name too. She explains why. And that’s not all—it’s a jam-packed issue.
After years of threatening, I have a domain name for an author website. The Authors Guild will host it for a modest fee if I don’t find another home elsewhere. My writers group, Writers Under the Arch, aka WUTA, is in the midst of building a group website as well. Now that Happiness Is Listening to Your Dog Snore (300ish quotes about dogs) is out, I’m discovering the joys (and pain) of learning Instagram, using Pinterest for more than a place to collect pretty pictures, how to tweet, and posting on LinkedIn. One part of my promotion is to ask people who buy the book to take a photo of their dog with the book (print or with a tablet or looking at a laptop to order it). I invent a caption—witty of course—and try to post one a day. Not all have a sales pitch—who wants that?—but they’re all darn cute. One dog, who shall be unnamed (Preacher) sees the book come out and automatically poses. I have at least four pictures of him to share.
During March, we’ll have a March Madness of our own with breeds facing off and followers voting, if I can figure out the grid after exhausting so many brain cells with all the social media. You can follow along by stalking Untreed Reads. Sixteen breeds…then eight…then four…then two…and a winner?!
