Hello friends,
Despite the ongoing challenges of this fall, PPEH has a lot to celebrate. Together, we have presented in twenty three events and participated in approximately one million Zoom meetings. Here are some highlights from the semester:
We launched Working Wednesdays, a series designed to showcase in-progress Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) straddling theoretical and practical environmental concerns with a focus on our mid-Atlantic region. This spring, we will continue with a focus on our wonderful grad fellows' research. Please put a hold on your calendars for Wednesdays at 12:30pm for lunch and discussion with us and stay tuned for the full calendar coming to you in our next quarterly newsletter in early January.
Our dynamic public research interns developed and presented My Climate Story workshops, designed to get people of all ages thinking about the critical perspectives and data that their personal stories contribute to our understanding of the climate crisis. There is even an accompanying playlist! If you are interested in seeing these stories (and hopefully, contributing your own!) please visit our My Climate Story storybank and follow on Instagram.
Our year with artist Amy Balkin culminated in a two day workshop on Speculative Archiving and Situated Memorialization, and in connection with our Futures Beyond Refining project. With presentations by experts Mr. Charles Reeves and Ms. Tammy Reeves of South Philadelphia and Mr. Brian Charlton of Donora, PA, our fellows and EH community members explored how rapid collection and archival practices can support community advocates and environmental justice.
Looking ahead to the spring, we’re diving deeper into this year of Transition/ Transformation with Topic Director Daniel Barber. With compelling events and discussions slated, we hope that you will join us in critically engaging with questions about how new paths forward are opened by necessary transitions away from carbon and envision where and how transformation is possible. Please save the dates of February 18, February 25, and March 4, 2021, for the Solar Panel.
Best wishes for a restorative and safe winter break that is full of warmth and light! We look forward to connecting with you in January!
