Having successfully navigated Christmas without any family Brexit arguments, we find ourselves in the transition period between CE marking and UKCA marking for the UK.
From Jan 1st 2021 the UKCA mark is valid to demonstrate conformity with UK regulations. It becomes compulsory for any new equipment “placed on the market” after 1st Jan 2022.
The Who sang “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss” (cue keyboard solo) and it’s very much the case for UKCA. The EMC, Radio Equipment, and Low Voltage Directives were already part of UK law. The overall ethos and the technical standards remain almost identical.
The main change has been with the new UKCA mark which sits alongside your existing CE mark. The rules for marking your products are here.
Sure, a year sounds like a long time to get sorted out but, need I remind you, because of Covid, it still feels like it was March last week.
If you are an existing customer and we’ve got a Declaration of Conformity on file for you, we’ll be rolling out UKCA mark ones this year for you.
There are a few more details on the U3C blog.
