An internet meme this week pointed out that Sunday will be 123123. I am not sure what we do with this information other than to choreograph the New Year's Eve Waltz.

Can you relate to Karen Heller's recent article in the Washington Post that "Fun is dead?" May your 2024 be filled with more spontaneous fun, laughter, and the outdoors or, better yet, spontaneous fun and laughter IN the outdoors!

Jess's masthead photo includes the signpost reading "Little Lyman Vista" but the "fit it into the space" widget eliminated it from view.

NEWS OF NOTE

Excited this week to share the latest in our "health benefits of the outdoors" video series. As we look to the start of a New Year, many will step back and assess, reflect on where we've been and where we are headed. And the best atmosphere for that reflective moment is ... quiet, of course!

The new video takes a look at the role of quiet in our lives and our outdoor experience. We are very proud of it and thank Colin Powell of Uproot Creative Services for another stellar production. Enjoy!

I decided to do a litte trawling through the photo contest submissions for wintry pictures. Here's an unusual capture of the Spruce Flats Bog in snow and ice(ish) by Britney Ledig.

Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area

A Christmas Eve visit by Gene DeRochemont to the top of the hill at Boyd resulted a sweet little time lapse video. Hope it links properly.

Even if not, this is a pretty sweet picture on its own!

Presque Isle State Park

This absolute stunner by Rick Baker was submitted to the "Conversations" category of this year's photo contest. Uh. This would seem to be a VERY one-sided conversation with the only appropriate response being, "Yes, sir, Mr. Hawk, sir. I would be delighted to make you our weekly jigsaw puzzle."
