The month of March saw all of our spring study abroad programs dive deeper into their host countries. Harding University in Latin America (HULA) spent March taking in Peru through two trips outside of Arequipa. Harding University in Greece (HUG) toured a new region of Greece and even experienced Greek island life. And Harding University in Florence (HUF) took several tours of iconic Italian locations, covering different aspects of Italian history and culture. Please continue reading to learn more about each program!

Harding University in Latin America

March kept the HULA group moving with travels to some amazing and eye-opening places like Nazca, Lima, the Colca Canyon and more. In Nazca, the students took flight tours over the Nazca Lines and enjoyed time in the desert with sandboards and dune buggy rides. Next, the group took a boat tour of Islas Ballestas before heading to Lima, the capital of Peru. On the Colca Canyon trip, students participated in homestays for a night with Quechua-speaking families in the town of Coporaque. Activities during this trip included hiking, horseback riding, and helping prepare a meal by harvesting vegetables and even milking a cow. Lastly, time in the Colca Canyon came to a close with a zip-lining opportunity.

Harding University in Greece

HUG spent the first few days of March relaxing back home in Porto Rafti, Greece after finishing a week-long tour of Egypt. However, HUG didn't sit still for long before heading off on a trip to the Peloponnese region of Greece which took them to places such as Corinth, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Nafplion, and Olympia. Continuing from the athletic heritage of Olympia, the group next visited Marathon and even lined up at the starting line of the marathon. Other highlights from the month included Greek dancing lessons and a visit to the temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio. HUG concluded the month with a trip to the Greek island of Crete to learn about Minoan history and civilization.

Harding University in Florence

The first week of March brought a sense of freedom and exploration as HUF students traveled in groups throughout Europe for their first week of independent travel. After reconvening back home in Florence, the group next set out for Naples, Paestum, and Pompeii. The following week was spent exploring the island of Sicily and the final days of March found the group in Casentino. From the historical ruins of Pompeii, the temples of Agrigento, and the castles of Casentino to the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums, a night at the opera, and horseback rides – HUF had a little something special for everyone this month!
