News from St. Andrew's - August 12, 2020

Dear St. Andrew's Congregation:

This has been a fairly quiet week for us.  Here are a few items to share:

Three notes about sharing joys and concerns:

  • Pam Pollan is scheduled for a "minor" preventative heart surgery soon.  We will let the Prayer Chain know when the date is certain.
  • At the August 9 adult study, we discussed the possibility of sharing prayer concerns as part of our weekly service.  However, it was pointed out that these become "public" on YouTube and it would not be prudent to do so in terms of confidentiality.  For now, we are glad to share any joys and concerns as part of either of our midweek or weekend emails.
  • As a reminder, whenever you know someone that can be supported in prayer, please send the request to Lydia Swanson at

The adult study has been a fascinating study of "Uppity Women of the Bible," and this week the subject is Esther.  Join us if you can...details below.  Last week I began the series "Glimpses of Paradise" with an exploration of Jacob's dream in Genesis 28.  This week the Scripture will be Psalm 104. Here are three images I'm going to be using as part of the message.  If you can guess what each of the three represents before the video goes out, you'll receive a private, recorded message from Disciple Dog, as well as public acclamation. Here they are, below.

NOTICE OF CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TO ELECT CHURCH OFFICERS:  A meeting of the Congregation will be held virtually via Zoom on Sunday, August 30 at 10:30AM at the beginning of the virtual Coffee Hour for the purpose of electing Church Officers.

Get ready to ZOOM to the Congregational Meeting

We hope that a large number of our congregation will be able to participate in the Congregational Meeting via ZOOM.  If you feel challenged by participating in a Zoom meeting via computer or smart phone give a call to Scott.  He will try to set up a practice session with you to familiarize you with the Zoom process.

Adult Education This Sunday: Enter into an exotic and fanciful Persian Kingdom complete with a dim-witted king, a defiant queen, an egotistical lieutenant and a loyal uncle.  With lavish banquets, extreme beauty treatments and dangerous liaisons at every turn, can the beautiful and courageous Esther avert disaster for her people?  All this occurs in a Biblical book where God is never mentioned.  Rev. Lisa Wolfe digs deeply and lovingly into this complex story that ranges from slapstick farce to Shakespearian tragedy in Uppity Women of the Bible - Esther.  So, grab your Purim gragger and your hamantaschen – if you don’t know what those are, you’ll find out – and join Dr. Wolfe for this fascinating study of power, corruption, violence and courage.  Please join us in our zoom Adult Education Class on Sunday August 16th at 11:00 AM.

The syllabus for the class is available HERE.
