Non-Violent Direct Action - Method or Madness?
Following up on our discussion at the beginning of the year on the protests in India, we wanted to explore how we, the people can act once the demonstrations are over. We watched this video by Extinction Rebellion on Non-Violent Direct Action, a type of protest that has proved successful in the past on many great occasions. The personal stories shared in the video were quite inspiring but at the same time we wished they had reacted more to the criticism many current protest movements receive. We were also not sure if the example of Greenpeace at the beginning really represents Non-Violent Direct Action π€
Our discussion was also informed by this article on the philosophy behind Non-Violent Direct Action, which also raises an interesting point: "If through love for your enemy you can create in him respect or admiration for you, this provides the best possible means by which your new idea or suggestion to him will become an auto-suggestion within him, and it will also help nourish that auto-suggestion." And if Dragon Ball has taught us anything, it's that by showing your opponent love and respect and giving them the opportunity to grow, great things can happen π₯°
