Sorry for the lack of emails recently, I have been dying of the flu - hopefully not literally, given the current environment, but I'm not taking any chances either and just focusing on getting better. Which means no work right now, and no emails.

To tide you over in the meantime, I recommend checking out this book on Amazon Ads. There is so much bad advice circulating on this topic. I know we live in an edge of sleazy internet marketers, but the sheer amount of charlatans purporting to be experts on Amazon Ads - writing books, selling courses, offering ad management services - is something else.

Robert Ryan knows his stuff though, and Amazon Ads Unleashed is great.

I probably shouldn't say this as I write books in this "space" if you like, but I think most marketing and advertising books are terrible. Poorly written, poorly researched, no real structure, no respect for the person reading it.

I enjoyed this a lot though. Logical structure, well written, interesting throughout, and smart too. Definitely recommend reading it and testing the methods.

Regular readers will know my endless frustrations with Amazon Ads, the one ad platform I can't really seem to crack. Well, this book on Amazon Ads is the first I've read which truly understands the algorithms. No hand-waving nonsense here, hooray!

I've only just started applying the methods so I can't give you a deeper take than that, but I am seeing positive results from my first attempts, even if I haven't fully locked in the approach quite yet. I can say this for sure: I finally understand why certain things didn't work for me previously, and why success was fleeting once gained, and, best of all, hitherto mysterious parts of the Amazon Ads system suddenly make sense.

I will say that the book is for more intermediate/advanced Amazon Ads users. It won't walk you through the very basics on setting up ads or explain every aspect of the interface, it does assume that knowledge. However, it does have excellent sections breaking down common advertising terms, and also teaches you how to analyse your ads so you know which ones are ultimately profitable - gives you a few ways to do that, in fact.

Amazon Ads for Authors by DM Potter is another I have waiting for me on my Kindle, that has also been recommended to me. Just looking at the TOC, it seems to cover some of the basics that the above book doesn't - as well as some more advanced and diverse topics too - so feel free to check that out also.

And just to give you one last resource, this Facebook group is where I learned about both books, and the only decent place I know of to get high-quality information on Amazon Ads as they directly apply to authors. It's not my group, but you can join here.

I might even see you in there, once I shake the plague...

Dave
