We have lots of community events and offerings coming up, so let's get right to it!

ASDE Community Forum Meeting

We are hosting a Community Forum to connect, support, and get feedback from our members and everyone involved in (or interested in!) SDE/unschooling. All are welcome: parents; youth; facilitators; SDE center staff and founders; interested grandparents, friends, or family; advocates; researchers; etc.

Here are some questions we will be addressing together:

What questions do you have for us?
Who are the various community members that seek support from ASDE? (parents, centers, youth, etc.?) and how can we best support them?
What do you value most about ASDE?
What do you imagine ASDE doing for you and for the world in the future?

New ASDE Compendium Cohort coming in January!

Our next ASDE Compendium Cohort will be starting in January 2026! The guided cohort model is a great way to dig deep into this compilation of over 60 lived SDE experiences alongside a supportive community. We will be officially releasing sign-ups in a couple weeks, but if you want early access to sign up, you can join the compendium cohort waitlist here. For those of you who joined the waitlist already, don’t worry, we've got you covered.

The ASDE Creative Flow Hour

The ASDE Creative Flow Hour is an online meetup for creators of all kinds to share space and feel the flow, to be held monthly, every third Thursday, from 1-2:30 pm EST. You can expect to join the call, say hello, and then asynchronously spend the time finding your flow. Whether you like having an accountability buddy or just want to be alone together, come join the call to create. This event is hosted by Annie Friday, ASDE organizer and Editor-in-Chief of Tipping Points Magazine.

Sudbury International Book Club

Please join us on December 3rd at 7:30pm ET / 4:30pm PT for the Sudbury Community Book Club discussion, Unschooling Yourself.

This month, we explore the journey that families take when their children become self-directed learners. Our primary reading to support this discussion is the 2025 book by Esther Jones, The Parent’s Handbook to Unschooling Yourself.

The Learning Planet Festival 2026 is open for event submissions!

Last year, ASDE, along with many other SDE advocates, hosted a series of events at the Learning Planet Festival. Submissions are now open to everyone for this year’s event! This event is not SDE-specific, but it is a good platform to share the ideas of SDE with other folks involved in alternative education. Event submission deadline is December 23, 2025. Submit your event here.

The Peace School Webinars – “Education and Inculturation” with Je’anna Clements

November 19th, 12:30pm eastern time.

An exploration of why nurturing a culture of peace in education is essential and how schools can empower all children, including those with diverse needs, to access inclusive, humanist, and learner-centred environments. Sign up here.

Blooming Together: Parent Coaching Cohorts with Bria Bloom

There are still spots left in Bria Bloom’s parent coaching cohorts starting this November and December! Bria offers a supportive, authentic, and caring environment to work through common parenting challenges and shift towards a deeper partnership with your young people. The Shift: Puerto Rico — Moved to FEBRUARY!

From the organizers: “We heard your feedback! November wasn't a good month for many of you interested in joining us in Boriké/Puerto Rico for The Shift. We've gone ahead and SHIFTED our dates. We are now hosting The Shift Feb. 25-Mar. 4th in Añasco, Puerto Rico!”
