Our Weekly Newsletter for Oct. 9/22 The 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Diocesan Thanksgiving Prayer
Oh Creator, giver of life and source of our freedom, we are reminded that yours is "the earth in its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1). We know that it is from your hand that we have received all that we have, all that we are, and all that we will be. Gracious and loving God, we understand that you callus to be stewards of your abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted tous. Help us always to use your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love of Christ in our lives. We pray this with grateful hearts in Jesus' name, Amen. (Bishop's Annual Appeal 2022)
Message from Fr. Mike for Sunday, Oct. 9
To all our “beloved” of St. Philip Neri Parish,
Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for! May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all …. I thank my God every time I remember you, praying with joy and thanksgiving in my prayers for you … Fr. Mike
October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary: We ask Mary to intercede on our behalf – through good times and in times of struggle and frustration.
"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus".
A Gentle Reminder:
These past weeks, we, the parishioners of St. Philip Neri Parish have been invited to respond to the many ministries in the Parish. To have a successful and unified Parish, it takes the generous hands and hearts of many people. The temptation is to leave it to someone else – as we feel we are too busy and over-committed already. However, our first self-judgment ought to be, “I do have time and talents and treasures; I am a “gift” to this Parish Family”. Please remember: There is a place for everyone, and everyone has a place … in this family.
Please note: There are two special “moments” during the Eucharistic celebration when we need your generous presence - to carry in the Cross in the Opening Procession, and to bring up the Eucharistic gifts (bread – wine – water, and the collection) at the Offertory.
Fr. Mike’s invitation and expectation - that each family takes this opportunity to share yourselves – your blessings to the Parish Family. The ushers or welcomers will explain to you what needs to be done, and when. Please don’t wait to be asked or cajoled. This is a wonderful opportunity for you, and your family, to actively participate in our Eucharistic celebration. This is also a special time for you to share these services with your children and grandchildren. I believe this is what St. Philip Neri meant when he said, “if only you stand fast”!
Once again, I say a big and hearty THANK YOU for all who have already responded to the Liturgical and Pastoral Ministries. We will gather the participants of each ministry soon – to meet and greet each other and to learn what is expected of each ministry. God is good … all the time.
Something from the Parish:
Matthew 25 “… for I was hungry, and you gave me some food; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. (v.35) Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (v.40)
From the staff and parents and students of Pope John Paul II Elementary School: THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU - for your generous support of our “school pantry”. Your generous response at Mass last Sunday is both highly appreciated and inspirational. The “CHILDREN’S CHANGE FOR CHANGE” will continue to provide food for the on-going need for food.
From Fr. Mike: I too was deeply moved and encouraged by your spontaneous generosity to respond to the needs for food at Pope John Paul II Elementary School. In the past, our Children’s Change for Change has responded to many other needs of the young people of our Church Communities. We will continue to discern and respond to these requests.
NOTE: Some people of the Parish have inquired how they may continue to respond to the “food needs” of JPII School. If you wish to continue to donate to this need, please respond in the following way: put your cash and/or cheques in a plain envelope addressed to:
Pope John Paul II “School Pantry” Food Program
You can put your envelope in the regular Sunday collection … I will gladly pass your donation to the school Principal.
Wherever you go, go with God. Whenever you go, make a difference.
Praise be Jesus Christ … and Mary Immaculate.
St. Philip Neri ... pray for us.
St. Eugene de Mazenod ... pray for us.
St. Kateri Tekakwitha ... pray for us.
A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Amen.

St. Philip Neri Parish Pictorial Directory - Book your appointment NOW!
Photo Sittings: Nov. 14 - 23
Do you ever see people in church and wonder what their names are?
Do you know the names of people outside your age group?
Have you ever heard an announcement in church regarding a parishioner and you couldn't put a face to the name?
Are you new to the church and wish you had something to help you get to know people and their names?
If you have said yes to any of these questions, we have a great solution for you! We have resumed our plans for our new Parish Pictorial Directory in order to help us acquaint ourselves with one another and strengthen the bond of our faith community - and we would love to have you/your family as part of it!
Everyone who has their picture taken will receive a FREE Parish Pictorial Directory to help you learn those names and faces! AND, if you haven't had a professional family portrait taken in a long time, you will also have the opportunity to purchase additional family portraits at less than studio prices to share with family and frieinds!
Note: If you have already had your picture taken just prior to the start of the pandemic two years ago, you may simply have that photo go into the new Directory and there is nothing more for you to do. If, like most of us, though, your photo sitting was cancelled due to the pandemic, OR if you wish to get a new photo taken, be sure to book a new appointment. Here's how:
The photo sitting dates are from Monday, November 14 to Wednesday November 23 any time between 1:30 - 8:30 pm on each of those days, with the exception of Saturday, Nov. 19, when the times are between 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, and NO BOOKINGS on Sunday, Nov. 20. You may now go ahead and book your spot, online, either through our Parish website, or by simply clicking on the link below and following a few simple instructions. Unless you do not have access to a computer, ALL bookings will be done on-line, We can't wait for everyone to finally have their photos taken and the new Directory to start taking shape! Just click on the link below and grab your preferred date and time before someone else does!
Note: Only those folks who do not have access to a computer are able to book their appointments by calling Joan Robertson, at (306) 222-9914, or Bonnie Klimek, at (306) 230-2756, but we do hope to keep those calls to a very bare minimum.
Remember - your Directory is free just for participating but we need all of you to participate! This Directory will embrace young and old, families, couples and single parishioners. You are ALL members of our church family, and our Directory is not complete without you! Thanks for your support and participation in this great project!
Our CWL would like to thank all those who supported last weekend's Annual Parish Pie and Bake Sale - either by donating delicious baking or by purchasing some! Your participation was greatly appreciated! All proceeds from the sale will be going to one of the CWL's many important projects. (Unfortunately my purchase will not be making it to Thanksgiving weekend - it was all gone within two days!) Thanks again, everyone, for your support - this fund-raiser is a real win-win!
Wednesday, October 12 at 7 pm
The next CWL Meeting will be held on Wed. Oct. 12, at 7 pm. Since October is the month of Our Lady, Mary, we are planning a special Rosary presentation and saying the Rosary, a brief meeting and time for socializing. All members and other women of the Parish are invited and encouraged to attend.

These can be dropped off at the church any time during office hours or before Masses. Our parishioners are always SO great at chipping in to help make our church look festive, warm and beautiful, so thanks in advance for your colourful autumn contributions!

The soul of Maxine Steinke, who passed away recently, and all her friends and family who mourn her loss.
All our Parish families who are celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend, and those who may not have anyone to celebrate with - may they all feel the abundance of God in their lives and give praise and thanksgiving to the One who has provided so many blessings in our lives.
Our Parish community, as we prayerfully reflect on our participation in the 2022 Bishop's Annual Appeal, and how we might bring hope and faith to the world through our prayer, service and financial support.
