What is the Magic Pill in Business?

Okay, so you want to make a bigger impact on your business. How do you do that? According to James Clear in his foundational book, Atomic Habits, the best way to achieve one's goals is through regular small actions. 


"Breakthrough moments are often the result of many previous actions, which build up the potential required to unleash a major change." (Clear 20).


No magic pill for business success. Dang. Business success is a cumulative process. Taking those small steps over and over in a consistent fashion builds until you reach the tipping point. 

Makes sense. Most people will understand that concept. I have often seen many business owners give up too early and ditch their strategy to chase the newer shiny strategy, technique, or trend. 

Habit researcher Clear found that "habits often appear to make no difference until you cross a critical threshold." (20). 

There is the rub! No one ever knows when they are going to cross that threshold, so how do you strengthen your commitment to keeping at it until you cross that finish line even when at times, there is no proof that you will ever make it?

That's where commitment and grit come into play. How committed are you? What do you need to do to lock into your determination to keep you going until you cross the threshold?


Keep Going When Times are Down

One of the reasons business owners give up too early is that we don't see what's accumulating under the surface. To help with that, it is important that you are taking the steps with the greatest potential to get you where you want to go. 

To do this, first determine that one little habit you could put into your business that would make all the difference?

Is it cleaning your desk? That might put more organization into your work. It would suggest to your subconscious that you are an organized person as you tackle the bigger task. 

 Is it making sure that you call the leads before you do anything else in the morning? 

Is it getting really clear on which actions you need to take every day? 

After you are clear on the major action steps to take, the next step is to determine how you can do that action 1% better today than yesterday.
